The Mercenary Queen Strikes Back (Lily Hastings) novel Chapter 63

Chapter 63.

Chapter 63

“Nova?” Charles was terrified the sight. He never imagined that his daughter, who had only recently returned home, would be surrounded by black market figures as if she were the center of their attention.

She even stood intimately close to a powerful, unfamiliar man.

From Charles’ angle, it looked like Nova and Damien were embracing.

Remembering his worst fears before sneaking upstairs, Charles wondered, ‘Has Nova been forced into this by an underworld big shot? Is this man the one behind it?’

Without hesitation, Charles rushed forward, pulled Nova behind him, and glared at Damien. “Who the hell are you? How dare you lay a hand on my daughter!”

The Blake family never hesitated when it came to protecting their children, especially Nova, whoìn Charles wished to protect from any harm.

He hadn’t noticed the tension between Nova and Damien moments earlier, so he only assumed Nova was being mistreated.

Charles shielded Nova behind him, glaring at Damien with alert eyes.

Nova hadn’t intended to fire; she simply refused to back down in front of Damien. As Charles pulled her away, she discreetly concealed the pistol at her side.

Charles didn’t notice the pistol at all. He was typically a polite and measured businessman. Normally, he treated anyone gentlemanly.

But now, his paternal instincts took over. He glared at Damien and demanded, “Was it you who has been bullying my daughter all this time?”

Damien lowered his gaze, not understanding the accusation. Bully her? I haven’t done that yet. That’s her dad?’ he thought.

He looked past Charles to Nova, who stood behind her father watching him with a faint, almost amused glint in her eyes.

“I’ll find you again.” After a deep look at Nova, Damien turned and left, with Aiden following closely behind.

From Damien’s demeanor, Nova sensed that he had no real intention of harm.

What surprised her more was that, despite his reputation as the ruthless leader of Shadow Sanctum, he hadn’t reacted at all to Charles’ provocation.

Nova wondered, a flicker of amusement crossing her eyes, ‘Could it be that… he really has feelings for me? Now that’s interesting!

“Nova, are you okay? Did he hurt you? I’m here. Don’t ever keep things to yourself,” Charles said anxiously, still holding Nova’s hand. “That guy looked decent. How could he do such a thing? Don’t be afraid. I’m taking you home right now.”

Charles was still rattled. He no longer cared about business networking. Calling over the stunned Hannah, he hurriedly led both daughters downstairs. To him, family always came first.

Claire, Hannah, Zane, and Jessica weren’t focused on Nova and Damien’s relationship. They were puzzled, thinking. Why are these black market figures so afraid of those two?’

Zane thought, studying Nova with a thoughtful gaze, ‘Maybe Nova’s just someone that man took a liking to, and he happens to be an underworld figure?’

Chapter 63

laire had hoped to see Nova humiliated by a sleazy man. Seeing Nova stand so close to a man, Claire was ecstatic, thinking her wildest dreams had come true.

But when she saw Damien, she was instead seething with jealousy at his striking looks. She thought, eyes full of envy, ‘Why does Nova get to be with someone that handsome? I’d gladly trade places!’

Claire was jealous. She practically wanted to rip Novato shreds.

As Charles led her away, Nova behaved with the gentle obedience of an ordinary girl-a stark contrast to the powerful aura she had shown moments earlier while facing Damien.

The dramatic shift sent a chill down the spines of the Verdant Reign and Frostwave Bar members watching.

Victor thought, still spooked, ‘She’s the truly terrifying one. A real two-faced actress!”

Before leaving, Nova glanced sideways at Victor, signaling him to handle the aftermath, secure the deal with Brody, and deal with Frank.

Victor understood perfectly. Without ever revealing Nova’s true identity, he played along seamlessly, continuing the act.

After being taken from the ball by Charles, Nova went straight home with Hannah and Maxwell.

Unaware of what had happened, Maxwell noticed the silence hanging over his father and sisters. He frowned slightly, but he ultimately asked no questions.

Nova had prepared herself for a family interrogation upon returning home, but to her surprise, no one asked her.

Late that night, with her sharp hearing, she caught fragments of a hushed conversation through her parents’ open window.

Fiona sobbed, “How could this happen? Why did my daughter have to face something like this? What did our family do to deserve this? What do we do now?”

Charles comforted gently, “No matter what, Nova’s our precious daughter. Let’s never mention this again.”

The next morning was an ordinary school day.

As soon as Sophia saw Nova, she asked with concern, “What happened to you yesterday? Why did you leave so suddenly? Ethan said you had an emergency. What was it?”

Nova shrugged. “No big deal.”

Sophia wasn’t one to pry. She simply nodded, “Oh.”

Class was about to start. Students were just lounging around, barely awake.

Suddenly, a student rushed into the room, panting and shouting, “Something’s going down! A man with a hammer broke into the school. The guards couldn’t stop him.

“Many students tried to block him and got knocked down. Come quick! It’s chaos on the sports field. They’re fighting.”

Students were always eager for excitement, especially with something this dramatic. In no time, nearly all students had run

out to watch.
