The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 118

True Mate-1

The engine roared to life and Caleb drove out of the underground garage like a man chased by something he could not see, his hands firm on the wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead-

But his mind…

His mind never left her.

Iva.

Still in his bed.

Still in his space.

Still under his skin.

“Damn it…” he muttered under his breath, his grip tightening suddenly before his fist slammed hard against the steering wheel.

The sharp sound echoed inside the car, but it did nothing to release the tension coiling inside him.

He hated this.

Hated it with a force that burned in his chest.

Hated that he had to leave.

Again.

Hated that it happened right after they had been together, when everything between them was still raw, still unresolved, still dangerously fragile.

All because of his father.

King William Adama.

Caleb exhaled sharply, his jaw clenching as the familiar frustration rose again, stronger this time, sharper than it had ever been before.

His father had always been like this.

Controlling.

Calculating.

A ruler who saw everything in terms of strategy, power, and necessity.

And Caleb-

Caleb had endured it his entire life.

Without question.

True Mate:1

Without rebellion.

Because he understood.

Claim

Because he knew what it meant to carry a kingdom on your shoulders. He was shaped for this role since his birth as he was the only heir, considering that his parents were chosen mates.

But tonight…

Tonight was different.

For the first time, the thought crossed his mind, clear and dangerous-

Tell him to mind his own business.

His fingers tightened again on the wheel.

His breathing grew heavier for a moment before he forced himself to stop.

Control.

He needed control.

Caleb took a long, trained breath, steady and deep, the kind drilled into him since childhood, the kind that forced discipline back into his body, into his mind.

Again.

Inhale.

Hold.

Exhale.

Slowly, the sharp edge of his anger dulled just enough for reason to step back in.

Because despite everything-

He knew.

His father was not acting out of cruelty.

But out of purpose.

Out of duty.

The greatness of their kingdom.

The power of the Adama clan.

That was always the priority.

Always.

Even now, when they stood at the peak of their strength, when their dominance was unquestioned, Caleb knew better than to believe they were untouchable.

Claim

True Mate:

Enemies were always there.

Watching.

Waiting.

Lurking in the shadows for even the smallest crack.

A moment of weakness.

A single mistake.

And they would strike.

He had seen it, as his family survived numerous coup attempts or assassinations.

Lived through it.

The palace was not a place of safety.

It was a battlefield dressed in gold.

Full of plots.

Manipulations.

Hidden alliances.

And silent wars fought behind closed doors.

Danger existed at every step.

And that-

That was exactly why he had said nothing about Iva to anyone, not even to his father.

His grip on the wheel softened slightly as his thoughts returned to her again, but this time, something protective settled beneath the surface.
