The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 117

Intensity-3

The loss of contact was immediate. `

Noticeable.

Iva swallowed softly but said nothing.

Caleb stood and walked toward the bathroom without a word, his expression unreadable again, the intensity from before now hidden beneath a layer of control he had rebuilt piece by piece.

The sound of running water filled the silence.

A minute later, he returned.

In his hand-a warm, damp towel.

Iva blinked slightly, caught off guard as he approached her again, his movements quieter now, less forceful, almost… considerate.

He handed it to her without a word.

And that simple gesture-

It made her blush.

Deeply.

A warmth spread across her cheeks as she took it, suddenly aware of everything again, of the closeness they had shared, of how vulnerable she felt now despite everything that had happened between them.

“Thank you…” she murmured softly, her voice barely above a whisper, her gaze dropping for a moment.

Caleb didn’t respond immediately.

Because something else had caught his attention.

His eyes shifted to the sheets.

And his expression changed.

A faint frown formed as he noticed the small smears of blood against the fabric, subtle but unmistakable.

Concern replaced everything else.

“Iva… his voice softened, losing its earlier edge completely as he looked back at her. “Did I hurt you?”

There was a pause.

“How are you?” he added, more quietly this time.

Iva hesitated for a fraction of a second before shaking her head gently.

“I’m okay, probably from the knot” she said blushing, her voice soft but steady enough to reassure him.

Intensity 3

And she meant it.

Despite everything, despite the intensity, despite the overwhelming nature of it all-

She was okay.

Clam

Caleb studied her for a moment longer, as if making sure she wasn’t just saying it to ease his mind, before finally giving a small nod as he started to arrange his clothes.

“Rest,” he said simply, his tone calmer now, grounded again.

She nodded.

But before the silence could settle again, he spoke once more.

“I’ll need to spend the night at the castle,” he said, his voice returning to something more neutral, more distant. “My father called earlier.”

The words were straightforward.

Matter-of-fact.

But they landed heavier than expected.

Iva nodded again.

“Of course,” she replied quietly.

Yet she couldn’t hide it.

That small shift in her expression.

That faint drop in her gaze.

Disappointment.

It was subtle.

But it was there.

And Caleb noticed.

Of course he did,

He stepped closer to her again, his presence drawing her attention back up as his eyes locked onto hers.

“Stop overthinking it,” he said, his tone softer than before, but still firm enough to hold weight. “I’ll see you soon.”

There was something in the way he said it.

Not a promise.

But not empty either.

Then he added, almost as an afterthought-

“And if you need to go outside… call James. I’ll send you his contact. He’ll be at your disposal.”

Iva blinked slightly, surprised again, but nodded.

“Okay…”
