The royal suite was meant to be a sanctuary.

Claim

After the ceremony, it was a place where the newly mated couple was supposed to rest, to recover, to bask in the glow of their union. The suite was lavish-a fireplace crackling with warm flames, a bed draped in silk, windows that overlooked a valley bathed in moonlight. Soft furs covered the floor. Candles flickered on every surface. It was romantic, intimate, perfect.

But Iva saw none of it.

She had finally fallen asleep, exhausted by tears and rage and the crushing weight of helplessness. Her face was still streaked with dried tears, her hand still clutching Caleb’s shirt even in unconsciousness. Her breathing was shallow, her brow furrowed even in sleep, as if she was fighting demons that refused to release her.

Caleb sat on the edge of the bed, watching her breathe.

His hands were shaking, but he tried to keep it together.

He had tried to be strong for her. Had held her, comforted her, promised her that everything would be all right. But now, alone with his thoughts and the weight of what had happened, the mask was slipping.

He ran his hands over his face, frustration burning in his chest like wildfire. His fingers dug into his scalp, pulling at his hair. A low growl rumbled from deep in his throat-a sound of pure, primal rage.

He stood abruptly and crossed to the window, his fists clenched at his sides. The mountains stretched before him, dark and silent under the moon. But he saw none of their beauty, as he made his way towards

his father’s office.

“This is insane,” he muttered, his voice raw. “The last thing I ever expected was for them to have the guts to actually kidnap someone from the Lycan Royal Castle.”

He turned to face his father, who had arrived moments ago, his expression dark and stormy. The Lycan King stood by the fireplace, his arms crossed, his jaw tight. His aura crackled with barely contained fury- ancient, powerful, dangerous.

“Worse,” Caleb continued, his voice rising, “my own mother-in-law. On her daughter’s crowning day. In the middle of our celebration. The audacity. The nerve.”

The King’s eyes narrowed. His hands, clasped behind his back, tightened until his knuckles went white.

“This Alpha in particular was always problematic,” the King said slowly, his voice low and measured. “But he always operated at the limit of legality. He flew under the radar. He had his share of issues- questionable dealings, rumors of coercion, whispers-but he kept them under wraps enough not to be flagged by the Council.”

He paused, shaking his head slowly.

“Yet… from what you told me now… how they tried to force chosen matings on at least two known cases- Iva and her friend Lori-and now kidnapping their Gamma female…” His voice dropped, heavy with regret.

“I opened iny eyes toward them. There is something really wrong with that pack leadership. Something Testering beneath the surface. But I was just too blind to realize.”

Caleb let out a long, frustrated sigh. He ran his hand through his hair, pacing the length of the room.

“And now worse,” he said. “They’re using the Council ruling on the packs to justify their kidnapping. They’re hiding behind bureaucracy, behind the very laws that were meant to protect wolves from tyranny and power abuse. The scumbags knew exactly where to hit-where we would be most vulnerable.”

The King opened his mouth to respond-

The phone rang.
