Plans for the Future-1
The Council chamber was in utter chaos.
Members shouted over each other, their voices rising in a discordant symphony of outrage and disbelief. Spectators surged to their feet, some cheering, some booing, some simply staring in open-mouthed shock. The Scott family’s section had descended into a frenzy of hissed arguments and furious gestures.
The head Council member raised his hands, trying to restore order. His face was flushed, his ancient eyes darting between Attia and the pandemonium he had unleashed.
“Order!” he bellowed, his voice cracking with strain. “I call for a recess! We will reconvene once the atmosphere has-”
“I oppose the recess.”
Attia’s voice cut through the noise like a blade.
The room fell silent.
He turned to face the head Council member, his expression cold and unyielding. His hand was still clasped tightly around Lori’s, his grip firm and steady.
“As per Article 47 of the Shifters Codicil,” Attia continued, his voice ringing with authority, “I am notifying the Council of my decisions. They are effective immediately. It is not up to the Council to oppose my choice-only to acknowledge it and process the paperwork.”
The head Council member’s face went pale.
“Mr. Scott-”
“I have given my entire life to this kingdom,” Attia said, his voice rising. “I have bled for it. I have sacrificed for it. I have given up everything-my body, my future, my dreams-for the sake of duty. And this is how I am repaid?”
His eyes swept across the Council members, his gaze burning with barely contained fury.
“You sit here in your robes, passing judgment on a bond you cannot understand. You twist the truth, fabricate evidence, and destroy innocent lives to protect the interests of the powerful.” He shook his head slowly. “And you expect me to respect your authority?”
The Council members shifted uncomfortably. Some looked away. Others flushed with anger.
Attia’s voice dropped, becoming cold and measured.
“I believe this is the last time we will see each other,” he said. “I would like to say that it has been a pleasure, but…” A bitter smile crossed his lips. “I am not a hypocrite. Or a liar. Unlike some people.”
His jab landed like a slap.
Several Council members’ faces burned with embarrassment and rage. The head Council member opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out.

Plans for the Ptiture. 1
Attia turned away.

Lori moved with him, her hand still clasped in his. They walked toward the massive oak doors, their steps echoing in the stunned silence.
The doors swung open.
And they stepped into the corridor beyond.-
The hallway was long and dimly lit, lined with portraits of former Council members. The air was cool, carrying the faint scent of old stone and dust.
Attia and Lori walked in silence, their footsteps echoing off the walls.
Lori’s heart was pounding. Her mind was reeling. She had just watched her mate resign from everything he had ever known-his position, his pack, his family-all for her.
“Attia,” she whispered.
He squeezed her hand.
“Not now,” he said softly. “Just keep walking.”
They didn’t get far.
A powerful aura slammed into them from behind-commanding, furious, suffocating.
*”Stop.”*
The voice was ice wrapped in steel.
Attia froze.
He didn’t need to turn around. He knew that voice. Had known it his entire life.
