Surprise Trip-2
Caleb had nodded, his jaw tight.
“I know.”
And then the Queen had entered the conversation, a mysterious smile on her face.
“I might have an idea,” she said.
Caleb and the King had turned to look at her.

The weekend had arrived with a soft knock on Iva’s door.
Caleb stood in the doorway, his expression a careful mask of calm, but she could see the excitement dancing in his deep eyes. He was dressed in casual clothes-dark jeans, a simple white shirt, the sleeves rolled to his elbows in a way that made her heart flutter even after all this time.
“Pack your bags,” he said. “We have an official event to attend.”
Iva blinked, still groggy from a restless night. The stalker’s letters had been quiet for two days, but the absence of threats had somehow made her more anxious. She had been sleeping in fits, waking at every sound, her body tense and alert.
“An event?” she repeated. “Where?”
Caleb’s smile widened.
“One of our allies’ packs. It’s important. We need to make an appearance.”
Iva felt a wave of exhaustion crash over her. The last thing she wanted was to attend an event surrounded by strangers, playing the role of the gracious Crown Princess when all she wanted to do was curl up in bed and hide from the world.
But she knew her duty.
She was the Crown Princess now. Every gesture, every word, every smile was scrutinized, analyzed, and judged. The public saw the shiny side-the exposure, the wealth, the glamour. They didn’t see the endless lessons in etiquette, the hours of political briefings, the constant need to be careful and controlled in every movement and every word.
They didn’t see the exhaustion.
“Of course,” she said, forcing a smile. “I’ll be ready in an hour.”
Caleb’s eyes softened.
“Take your time,” he said. “I’ll be waiting. Don’t get too many stuff, the staff already prepared your main luggage.”

Iva packed quickly, her movements mechanical. She didn’t bother with makeup-there would be time for That later.
When she was ready, she made her way to the SUV waiting at the entrance.
Caleb was already inside, his laptop open, his focus on some document. He looked up as she climbed in, his expression shifting from concentration to warmth.
“Ready?” he asked.
Iva nodded, settling into the seat beside him.
The moment the door closed, she let herself relax. She leaned into Caleb, letting his warmth envelop her. His arm wrapped around her, pulling her close.
“You’re exhausted,” he murmured, his voice low and concerned. “I can feel it through the bond.”
Iva closed her eyes.
“I’m fine,” she lied.
Caleb pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“Rest,” he said. “I’ll wake you when we arrive. I’ve got you. Try to catch some sleep.”
Iva nodded, too tired to argue.
The gentle hum of the SUV’s engine, combined with the warmth of Caleb’s arms, lulled her into sleep. She fell into a deep, dreamless slumber-the first truly restful sleep she had experienced in weeks.
Hours later, Iva stirred.
She blinked, disoriented, her mind struggling to catch up with her surroundings. The soft hum of an engine was still there, but it was different-higher, steadier, with a vibration that felt unfamiliar.
She was in a bed?
A comfortable, luxurious bed with silk sheets and plush pillows. The room was dimly lit the walls paneled in rich wood. The hum was constant, omnipresent, and the occasional bump or sway made her stomach flip.
Iva sat up, her heart racing.
She looked around, trying to orient herself. The room was small but elegant-a private suite, beautifully appointed. A window was covered by thick curtains, and the hum seemed to come from everywhere at
