Surprise Trip-3
“Hello, sleepy head,” he said. “Finally woke up?”
Iva shook her head, still trying to process everything.
“Where am I?” she asked, her voice groggy.
Caleb closed his laptop and set it aside.
“We’re visiting an old ally,” he said, standing and crossing the room to her. “I thought you could use a change of scenery.”
Iva blinked, trying to make sense of his words.
“Visiting an ally? Where?”
She looked around the cabin, her mind finally catching up to her senses. The hum. The vibration. The small, private suite.
“This is a plane,” she said slowly. “We’re on a private plane?!”
Caleb’s smile grew.
“Smart girl.”
Iva’s eyes widened.
“I’ve never flown before,” she said, her voice tinged with wonder as by insting she grabbed a chair like trying to keep her balance. “I never imagined…”
Caleb pulled her into his arms, wrapping her in a warm embrace.
“I know,” he said softly. “That’s why I wanted to surprise you.”
Iva pulled back, her eyes searching his face,
“Where are we going?”
Caleb’s smile turned mischievous.
“Italy,” he said. “Of course.”
Iva froze.
Her mouth opened. Closed. Opened again.
“I-Italy?” she stammered. “You’re taking me to Italy?”
Caleb’s laugh was warm and genuine.
す
“Yes, Iva. Italy. I thought we deserved a break. Just the two of us, away from the Council, away from the stalker, away from everything.”

Iva’s eyes filled with tears:
“But the event-the official visit-”

“The event was an excuse, Caleb admitted, “I wanted to get you away from all the stress. You’ve been working yourself into the ground, and I couldn’t watch it anymore.”
Iva stared at him, overwhelmed.
“You did all this for me? But my duties as the Messenger.”
Caleb cupped her face in his hands, his thumb brushing away a tear.
“I would do anything for you and your duties can wait,” he said softly. “You are my mate. My future queen. And I will move heaven and earth to make you happy.”
Iva threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Caleb held her tight.
“Always,” he said.
The rest of the flight passed in a blur of wonder and excitement.
Iva pressed her face to the window, watching as the clouds parted to reveal the stunning coastline of Italy. The sea sparkled beneath them, impossibly blue, and the coastline was dotted with charming villages and rolling hills.
“It’s beautiful,” she breathed.
Caleb stood behind her, his hands resting on her shoulders.
“Wait until you see the villa,” he said. “It’s been in my family for generations. I used to spend my summers here when I was younger.”
Iva turned to look at him.
“You’re bringing me to your family’s villa?”
Caleb nodded.
“Consider it a post-honeymoon,” he said. “We can explore, relax, and forget about the rest of the world for a few days.”
Iva’s smile was radiant.
