There was a pause on the other end.
Then Caleb spoke again, his voice resolute.
“We need to confirm her identity. If she is who she says she is, we need to establish that on formal channels. First, we need to reverse the dead status that Calin has been maintaining.”
Attia nodded, even though Caleb couldn’t see him.
“I’ll send blood samples to the royal lab. But I need more than that. If what she told us is true -if Calin is as desperate as she says-he won’t stop. He’ll come for her. And he’ll bring everything he has, as his entire existence and status is at risk. He will not spare any efforts in getting this buried.”
Caleb’s voice was grim.
“Then we make sure he doesn’t succeed. I’ll assign a squad of elite fighters to your location. Discreetly. They’ll reinforce your security and escort all three of you to the Royal Castle. Anyhow you are due a visit in a few weeks.”
Attia didn’t argue.
“Thank you,” he said simply.
“Don’t thank me yet,” Caleb replied. “This is only the beginning.”
The line went dead.
Attia stared at the phone for a long moment, his mind already racing ahead.
Lori stepped closer, her hand finding his.
“What happens now?” she asked quietly.
Attia’s gaze was steady.
“Now we prepare to travel for the ball all three of us. We fortify. And we wait.”
