The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 59

Confession-2

Silence crashed over the lake.

Even the wind seemed to still.

Caleb did not move.

Did not blink.

Did not breathe.

The world held its breath with him.

Iva’s chest heaved, her vision swimming, her hands trembling uncontrollably as the truth hung between them – fragile, irreversible, exposed.

The thread between their chests flared like a burning line of fate.

Caleb did not react immediately.

For a fraction of a second, he simply stood there, motionless, as though her words had struck a place in him that did not often receive impact.

Then he laughed.

Not loudly.

Not cruelly.

But with a sharp, incredulous amusement that cut through the tension like glass.

A low sound, smooth and controlled, yet carrying an unmistakable edge of disbelief.

“Well,” he said, voice laced with irony, “that is new.”

“I have heard many approaches,” he continued, glancing at het from the corner of his eye. “Many attempts to gain attention. Influence. Protection.”

His lips curved faintly.

“But claiming to be my fated mate… that is originality.”

Iva’s hands clenched at her sides.

“I am not joking.”

The laughter vanished.

Just like that.

Caleb stopped walking.

When he turned fully toward her again, the warmth – however minimal it had been

expression. His gaze hardened into something sharp and assessing.

Dangerous.

“You dare,” he said quietly, to invoke the sacred bond of the Moon Goddess as a strategy?”

His aura surged.

Not violently – but unmistakably. The air grew heavier, pressing against her lungs, demanding submission with effortless authority.

It took everything in her not to step back.

“Do you understand what you are claiming?” he continued, voice colder now. “Do you understand what that bond means among our kind?”

Iva swallowed hard.

Fear prickled across her skin – but something else held her in place.

She could not look away from him.

He stood only a few steps from her, tall enough that she had to tilt her chin slightly to meet his gaze. Broad shoulders framed in dark fabric, posture impossibly straight, every line of his body radiating restrained power. His presence was not simply physical – it was sovereign.

His hair, black as midnight, fell in controlled waves that softened nothing of his severity. His features were sculpted with almost inhuman precision – sharp jaw, high cheekbones, lips that rarely seemed to form a full expression.

And those eyes.

Deep, dark, consuming.

They did not merely look at a person.

They penetrated.

He was beautiful in the way a storm was beautiful – magnificent, untouchable, and capable of destruction without effort.

Unapproachable.

Dominant.

A king born before a crown ever touched his head.

And he was her mate.

The realization shook her all over again.

“I would never disrespect the Goddess,” she said, voice trembling despite her effort to steady it.

He watched her silently.

The tension stretched.

Her heart pounded so loudly she was certain he could hear it.

“You felt it too,” she whispered, unable to stop herself. “When we touched… the spark… the thread-”

His expression hardened further.

“Enough.”

The single word carried command like a blade carried an edge.

Her chest tightened.

But anger raw, wounded, stubborn – rose inside her.

She had to escape her pack because of this.

She would not do it again.

“You think I would lie about something like this?” she asked, voice shaking but firm. “You think I would choose this?”

Her hand pressed unconsciously over her heart.

“You think I wanted a lycan prince who looks at me like I am a threat?”

Something flickered in his gaze.

Brief.

Unreadable.

But gone before she could grasp it.

She exhaled shakily.

“I didn’t even know who you were when it happened,” she continued softly.

The thread between them pulsed again – brighter, more visible, as if responding to her truth.

Caleb’s stillness did not last.

It shattered.

“No one,” he said slowly, each word carved from controlled fury, “is capable of sensing fated bonds anymore.”

The temperature of his voice dropped so low it seemed to frost the air between them.

“That knowledge,” he continued, “has been lost for generations. Even among lycans.”

His eyes burned into her.

The weight of his aura surged again heavier this time, pressing against her ribs, demanding submission, Truth, surrender.

Avalon bristled beneath her skin, restless but alert.

Iva forced herself not to shrink.

She nodded.

“I know.”

The simple agreement made something flash across his face – disbelief sharpened with irritation. His lips curved into a cold, ironic half-smile.

“You know,” he repeated softly.

A dangerous calm settled over him – the kind that preceded a storm, not followed one.
