Uneasy Silenct-2-
Uneasy Silence-2
Two weeks before truth would be revealed.
She pressed her hand over her sternum unconsciously.
Avalon stirred gently beneath her skin.
“We are safe,” her wolf murmured.
Iva swallowed.
Safe… or trapped?
Outside her door, footsteps moved away – controlled, steady, resolute.
But if she had seen Caleb at that moment, she would have noticed something no one else had ever witnessed.
Not certainty.
Not calm.
But a man standing alone in the dim corridor, staring at nothing… as if trying to understand a choice he had already made without permission from his own mind.
And for the first time in many years-
He did not trust his instincts.
Somewhere deep inside him, something ancient had recognized her before reason could intervene.
And it refused to retreat. He had no idea if he really was reacting to a mate bond or it was just wishful thinking; two more weeks and he will have his answer.
Inside the guest room, Iva sat slowly on the edge of the bed, hands trembling in her lap.
Her life had changed again.
Without warning.
Without control.
Without escape.
And neither of them knew yet which truth would break first-
The revelation of the messenger…
Or the bond neither had chosen.
Night came slowly inside the penthouse.
Not like the nights she knew.

There were no thin walls trembling from distant voices, no creaking pipes, no footsteps outside her door, no smell of damp fabric or cheap detergent clinging to the air.
Only silence.
Deep… expensive silence.
Iva stood by the wide window for a long time, afraid to touch anything. The city lights shimmered below like scattered stars. Everything looked unreal – like a world she had accidentally stepped into and did not belong to.
“Avalon…” she whispered inside her mind.
“Yes, little heart.”
“We are in a Lycan’s home.”
Her wolf’s presence warmed faintly beneath her ribs, a soft vibration of awareness.
“Not just any lycan.”
Iva swallowed.
“Caleb Adama,” she murmured, barely shaping the name.
Even thinking it felt forbidden.
She pressed her forehead lightly against the cool glass.
“If anyone from the pack could see me now…”
Her lips parted in a disbelieving breath.
“My father would think I lost my mind.”
“He would think you were lying,” Avalon corrected gently.
“Nick…” The name escaped before she could stop it.
A hollow ache answered.
Would he care?
Would he even wonder where she had gone?
Or had her disappearance simply removed an inconvenience from his life?
Iva squeezed her eyes shut.
“No,” she whispered to herself. “No more.”
She had promised.
Since the moment she crossed the border, she refused to look back. No thoughts of the pack. No thoughts of home. No thoughts of the life that had already been decided for her without consent.

A shiver ran down her spine.
“Moon Goddess… please protect me.”
She didn’t know if the prayer was for the future or the past.

Eventually, exhaustion guided her toward the bed. The mattress yielded softly beneath her weight – too soft, too comfortable, almost unsettling. The sheets smelled clean, faintly unfamiliar… but beneath that-
