The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 79

Heat-T

The penthouse door closed behind Iva with a sharp, echoing click.

For several seconds after she left, Caleb didn’t move.

Then he slowly leaned back into the couch and exhaled through his nose.

A long breath.

Controlled.

Measured.

He closed his eyes.

One…

Two…

Three…

He counted slowly to ten, forcing the tension out of his muscles the same way he did before a fight.

But this was far more frustrating.

Because his body clearly had different plans.

By the time he reached ten, the tension had only shifted-not disappeared.

Caleb dragged a hand through his dark hair and muttered under his breath.

“What the hell is wrong with me…”

His gaze drifted toward the hallway where she had disappeared only minutes ago.

And immediately his mind and body betrayed him.

Last night.

The memory returned whether he wanted it or not.

When he had entered the penthouse the previous evening, James had already briefed him.

The destroyed room.

Her broken belongings.

Her silent tears in the car.

And then he had seen her sleeping on the couch.

Curled up like a small animal.

Her body still trembling even in sleep.

At first he had simply stood there watching her.

Trying to understand why the sight of her stirred something inside his chest.

Something uncomfortable.

Something protective.

Annoying.

Because Caleb Adama did not get emotionally involved.

He had learned long ago that emotions were liabilities.

Especially for someone in his position.

But when he saw her thin frame curled on that massive couch-

Something in him snapped.

He couldn’t leave her there.

So he had walked over quietly.

And lifted her.

The moment her body settled in his arms-

Everything changed.

His jaw clenched at the memory.

Her body had been warm.

Soft.

Ridiculously light.

Too light.

He could feel every delicate curve through the thin fabric of her clothes.

And her scent-

Moon above, that scent.

Wild.

Soft.

Dangerously addictive.

The reaction in his body had been immediate.

Violent.

Primitive.

His muscles had tightened instantly.

His breath had deepened.

His c**k twitched.

And for a terrifying second-

Chaos, his inner beast, had surged forward.

Mate.

The memory made Caleb groan quietly now, as he adjusted his trousers.

He had placed her in the bed as quickly as possible.

Then he had practically retreated from the room.

Straight into the shower.

Cold water.

Ice cold.

For twenty minutes.

And it still hadn’t helped.

His body had been completely uncooperative.

As if it had developed a mind of its own.

Caleb leaned his head back against the couch, staring at the ceiling now.

“I’m losing my mind.”

Because none of this made sense.

He couldn’t even remember the last time he had been with a woman.

Not because he lacked options.

Quite the opposite.

Between royal events, alliances, business meetings and training sessions, women practically threw themselves at him.

Lycans.

High-ranking she-wolves.

Daughters of powerful Alphas.

Even humans.

All beautiful.

All confident.

All ambitious.

And yet-

None of them had ever affected him like this strange, timid little she-wolf.

It was ridiculous.

Physically speaking, she wasn’t even his type.

Caleb had always preferred women with strong curves.

Voluptuous figures.

Confident presence.

Women who understood power.

Iva…

He frowned slightly.

She looked like she hadn’t eaten properly in months.

Too thin.
