Wild Thoughts-2
“Yes.”
“Today.”
Avalon hummed approvingly.
“Finally a practical thought.”
Iva rubbed her face tiredly.
“At least we have a place to crash for a few days.”
Her voice softened.
“Until the full moon.”
Avalon nodded inside her mind.
“The hostel is not safe anymore. There is no point to return there.”
Iva’s expression darkened instantly.
Images of the destroyed room resurfaced.
The shredded mattress.
The torn clothes..
The overturned furniture.
The receptionist’s indifferent voice.
A shiver crawled down her spine.
“That wasn’t a robbery.”
Avalon’s tone grew serious.
“No.”
Iva crossed her arms slowly.
“A robber takes things.”
“Exactly.”
“They destroyed everything.”
Her wolf’s voice lowered.
“Someone was enraged enough to destroy our things piece by piece.”
Iva leaned her head back against the wall.

“Why?”
Avalon remained silent for several seconds.
Then she answered carefully
“That is the question.”
Iva stared toward the window where morning light filtered into the room.
A heavy unease settled in her chest.
“Do you think…”
She hesitated.
“…it was someone from our old pack? But we hid well our tracks.”
Avalon did not answer immediately.
Finally the wolf said softly:
“We cannot rule it out.”
Iva felt the knot in her stomach tighten.

Her heart picked up speed again as she slowly opened the door and stepped out into the hallway.
The penthouse was quiet.
Soft morning light poured through the massive windows of the living room, painting the marble floor in warm gold.
She hesitated for a second before stepping forward.
And then she saw him.
Caleb sat on the large couch, a sleek laptop balanced on his lap. His posture was relaxed but focused, shoulders slightly forward as his long fingers moved quickly across the keyboard.
His attention was completely absorbed by whatever he was working on.
The sharp morning light highlighted everything about him.
The dark hair that fell slightly over his forehead.
The strong line of his jaw.
The powerful frame barely contained by the black shirt he wore.
Even sitting down, he radiated dominance.
Authority.

Control.
tva instinctively slowed her steps.
Her wolf stirred in excitement.
She tried to move as silently as possible, hoping to pass through the living room unnoticed.
Invisible.
But the problem was that the more she looked at him-
The worse things became.
Her heart betrayed her first.
It began pounding so loudly she was sure he could hear it.
Her gaze drifted over him again despite her efforts not to stare.
That hair.
That body.
That dangerous stillness.
Suddenly a hot wave rushed through her body.
Her breath caught.
And before she could stop it-
Her mind filled with a completely inappropriate thoughts.
She imagined crossing the room in two strides.
Grabbing him by the collar.
Pulling him down.
Kissing him hard and reckless-
Her teeth sinking into his neck.
Marking him.
Claiming him.
Iva’s eyes widened in horror.
What the hell are you thinking?!
She mentally slapped herself.
Iva!

Her cheeks burned instantly.
“You are not some pervert,” she scolded herself internally.
Avalon, however, sounded very entertained.
“Our instincts are waking up.”
“This is not instincts, this is insanity!”
Before she could recover from her internal panic
Caleb’s voice cut through the room.
Calm.
Dry.
Without even looking up from the laptop.
“Take a picture.”
Iva froze.
Her stomach dropped.
Then slowly-
Very slowly-
Caleb lifted his gaze from the screen and looked straight at her.
His dark eyes locked onto hers.
“… It will last longer.”
Her face instantly turned scarlet.
She had been caught,
Red-handed.
Spying.
“Oh my-”
She fumbled with her words.
“Good morning,” she mumbled awkwardly.
Caleb said nothing.
He just watched her.
And that was somehow worse.

Because when their gazes met-
Another wave of heat rushed through her body.
Stronger this time.
Her breath caught again.
Her knees instinctively pressed together as she struggled to keep herself composed.
Avalon hummed knowingly.
“The bond is reacting.”
