Golden Glow-2
“…And now?”
Caleb held her gaze.
She swallowed slowly.
“Do you know for sure?”
For a moment the room was silent.
Caleb still held her gaze, while the fragile tension between them stretched thinner and thinner like a thread ready to snap.
Then- before he could say something…
It happened.
Suddenly a violent wave of heat slammed into Iva’s body.
Her breath caught sharply in her throat as her senses spiked all at once, the sudden rush of warmth spreading through her veins like wildfire. Her fingers gripped the bedsheets instinctively as her entire body tensed, a trembling shiver running down her spine.
“Oh-” she gasped softly.
Caleb saw it instantly.
The subtle flush spreading across her skin.
The way her breathing changed.
The way her scent shifted in the air.
They both realized it at the same time.
Her heat had returned.
But this time…
It was worse.
Far worse.
The engagement mark on her neck burned faintly, pulsing with warmth, and Caleb felt the answering reaction deep inside his chest where the temporary bond connected them. The sensation was like a live wire suddenly sparking to life inside him.
Chaos stirred violently.
Mate.
Caleb stiffened.

His fingers curled slowly into fists at his sides as instinct and reason collided inside his mind like two opposing storms.
No.
Not like this.
Not now. No just because of her heat.
Claim
He forced himself to take a step back instead of forward, every muscle in his body locking tight with effort as he fought to maintain control.
His instincts were raging.
The scent of her arousal was beginning to spread through the room, intoxicating and dangerous, and the bond between them only amplified it, feeding directly into the primal instincts of the Lycan inside him.
The engagement mark was burning hotter now.
Caleb could feel it.
Feel her.
And he knew something terrifying in that moment.
He was fighting a losing battle.
Still-
He tried.
He clenched his jaw, forcing his breathing to slow as he turned his head away from her for a moment, as if the simple act of not looking might help him regain control.
But then Iva whimpered.
A small, broken sound escaped her lips as another wave of heat struck her body, forcing her to curl slightly forward on the bed as pain and overwhelming sensation twisted through her.
Her fingers clutched helplessly at the fabric beneath her.
“Caleb…” she breathed weakly.
That was the moment his control snapped.
Inside his mind Chaos roared.
Mate. She needs us.
The words reverberated through him like thunder.
Before Caleb even realized what he was doing-
He moved.
Two steps.

<Golden Glow-z.
That was all it took.
One moment he stood across the room.
The next he was right in front of her.
Iva looked up at him.
Her hazel eyes were darkened now, burning with heat and confusion, her breathing uneven as the bond and her heat ravaged her equally.
Her scent filled the air around them.
And it hit Caleb like gasoline thrown onto fire.
The last fragile thread of restraint inside him snapped completely
Claim
In a single movement he leaned over her, one hand bracing against the mattress while the other slid behind her head, his fingers tangling firmly into her hair-not painfully, but with enough strength to keep her from pulling away.
Her breath hitched sharply at the sudden movement.
Their faces were inches apart.
His dark eyes burned down into hers, filled with raw intensity and something dangerously primal.
“It seems that there is no turning back…” he said quietly, his voice rough with restraint that was already failing.
His thumb brushed briefly along her jaw as he held her gaze captive.
