The security system was tough, almost impossible to crack. Charlotte spent ages trying before she finally managed to get in remotely. When she did, she realized someone had wiped out every single record.

Nora, even twenty years ago, had been a genius at everything. Medicine, computers—she was so good it was almost scary. Charlotte tried to recover the old messages Nora had deleted, but the lab’s ancient computer just wasn’t fast enough. For now, there was nothing she could do.

“Charlotte, do you think Nora’s actually going to do something crazy?” Adonis asked, sounding hesitant.

“It wouldn’t surprise me,” Charlotte replied, looking pale. She let out a cold laugh, ready to call Franco, but right then a message from him flashed across her phone. It was a scheduled text, sent twelve hours ago.

It was simple. Nora had suggested a couples’ trip, just the two of them. Since it was their first trip since getting married, they didn’t want anyone interrupting. After texting Charlotte, they’d turned off all their devices.

Charlotte stared at the screen, her heart sinking. This wasn’t a vacation. They were clearly trying to avoid her, probably about to make some sort of deal with the Hawk family.

She couldn’t track them down, and her expression hardened. She called Solenia right away. The butler answered, cheerful as always.

“Charlotte, Franco and Nora left last night,” he said. “They didn’t tell us where they were going! But don’t worry. Nora was the one who brought it up, and she seemed happy. The two of them…”

Charlotte’s eye twitched. She hung up on the butler without another word, then called Anthony. Her breathing was shaky. She could barely get the words out.

“I got Franco’s message,” Anthony said first, his voice gentle as he tried to calm her down. “Don’t worry. I’ve already sent people to look for them. We’ll hear something soon.”

“Alright,” Charlotte replied, sitting in front of her computer with her fists clenched tight. “We only have three days.”
