The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1810

The entire flight, Anthony barely spoke, just quietly held her. Every so often, he’d ask if she was thirsty or hungry, but that was it.

Charlotte felt the tension hanging over them, heavy and clear. Anthony was definitely hiding something from her.

“What’s going on?” she finally asked.

Anthony glanced away, avoiding her eyes. His voice was gentle. “If you’re tired, close your eyes and rest a bit. I’ll be right here.”

“Alright.” Charlotte didn’t push it. She leaned against him, closed her eyes, and tried to relax.

More than ten hours later, they landed at Cabinda International Airport. There was already a car waiting. With a small team of bodyguards at their side, they climbed in.

The car pulled away, but it didn’t take the familiar turn toward Imperial Heights or either of their estates.

“Where are we actually going?” Charlotte looked up, her eyes sharp, her voice cool and steady.

“To the hospital.” Anthony tightened his arm around her, sitting level with her gaze. His words were soft, like he was trying to cushion the blow. “I figured out what’s been causing your high fever.”

“It’s not the sleep disorder. It’s because the babies... they’re causing your body to go out of balance. That’s what’s behind the fever.”

He’d seen it with his own eyes this time. Who knew what she went through when he wasn’t with her? He thought back on the convulsions and vomiting she’d tried to hide, and his heart felt heavy. It had probably been happening for a while now.

“So, what then?” Charlotte’s eyes narrowed. A storm rolled over her pretty, pale face, and her voice dropped even lower.

“Lottie…” Anthony breathed out, gathering her closer and tipping her chin up until their eyes met. He spoke slowly, like he wanted her to really understand. “The babies are seriously affecting the treatment for your genetic condition.”

“If you focus on getting better, we’ll be able to have children again one day.”

“So…” His next words stuck in his throat as he struggled to say them. His voice was raw. “Lottie, maybe we shouldn’t have the babies right now. Alright?”

The words fell into silence, weighing down the car. Even Hans, in the driver’s seat, seemed frozen. He tensed his grip on the wheel, parking on the roadside, beads of sweat popping on his brow.
