"I'll make sure it's worth the wait," Charlotte promised.
Anthony gave a strained smile, leaning back against the headboard in utter frustration. "Thanks for that."
"Anytime."
After giving Roger a strict list of instructions, Charlotte returned to the guest room. She pushed the door open to find Anthony fast asleep, clutching her pillow to his chest. Seeing the exhaustion on his face, a fond smile tugged at her lips. She approached quietly, lifting the blanket and slipping into his arms.
He woke the moment she settled against him, looking at her with sleep-heavy eyes.
"You can start the countdown now," Charlotte whispered, licking her lips with a knowing wink. Her pregnancy had definitely tested his restraint.
"Go to sleep," Anthony murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead and tucking her securely against his chest. He hadn't been able to sleep without her, but he knew she was equally exhausted from taking care of Stella. He couldn't bear to push her.
Charlotte looked up at the strikingly handsome man holding her. He was perfect, and he was completely hers. She tried to snuggle closer, but her heavy stomach got in the way. She frowned, glaring down at the bump separating them.
Sensing her frustration, Anthony shifted closer. He wrapped a long arm around her waist, resting his hand softly on her stomach. "Just two more months. Be patient."
Once the baby was out, he fully intended to make up for nine months of pent-up tension.
Pacified, the mom-to-be smiled and nestled comfortably into her husband's embrace. Within minutes, they were both fast asleep.
