The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 2013

In the car, Anthony drove while Lottie took the passenger seat, leaving Stella and Roger in the back.

Stella sat clutching her milk tea, her cheeks entirely drained of color as she stared blankly out the window. Anxiety radiated from her every movement.

"Don't be afraid," Roger said, taking her hand and studying her face. He kept his voice soothingly low. "We're going home. There are no outsiders."

Home? Did he just call it... home? Stella gazed deeply at him, a faint glimmer of light returning to her eyes.

"Samantha made all your favorite dishes," Roger murmured, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. His tone was incredibly gentle. "She's going to be so happy to see you. So, just relax."

Stella blinked, processing his words, and gave a small, obedient nod.

Catching the subtle shift in the girl's demeanor through the rearview mirror, Lottie allowed a small smile. Then, she pulled out her phone and dialed Hans. "Bring Veronica to us," she ordered, her tone turning glacial.

At the Gates family estate, the courtyard was unusually quiet. Considering Stella's condition, Samantha had made special arrangements, allowing only a few trusted staff members to be present.

"Stella, darling!" Seeing the sweet girl being led in by her son, Samantha practically jogged over. She shoved Roger aside and warmly took Stella's hands. "I've been waiting for you forever. I'm so glad you're finally here."

Roger, unceremoniously pushed out of the way, frowned in displeasure.

Faced with such an enthusiastic welcome, Stella tried to speak, forcing herself to interact with someone other than Lottie. But when she opened her mouth, no sound came out. The rush of anxiety caused her body to stiffen.

"It's okay, take your time," Samantha said gently, noticing her struggle. She patted Stella's hand with unwavering warmth. "You must be exhausted. I made some wonderful food for you and Lottie."

"Stop talking nonsense!" Samantha slapped Kenneth's hand and glared at him. "This is your future sister-in-law. If you scare my future daughter-in-law away, I'll end you."

Future sister-in-law? Though Samantha had lowered her voice, everyone at the table heard her loud and clear. Instantly, all eyes fell on Stella, accompanied by warm, knowing smiles.

"Right, right," Kenneth said, rubbing his hand. He picked up his juice glass and looked at Roger with deadpan seriousness. "Don't worry, Roger. I was just joking. I would never sabotage a sister-in-law as amazing as her."

He delivered the title with utmost respect.

Stella was visibly startled. She ducked her head, her cheeks flushing furiously as her heart pounded against her ribs.

"Just shut up," Samantha sighed in exasperation, pulling Kenneth back into his seat before turning to soothe the girl. "Eat up, Stella."
