The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 942

Charlotte just stared at him, speechless.

Outside, the night was settling in. The tree branches tapping at the window finally went still, and the bedroom was filled with a soft, dim light.

Charlotte lay across the bed, completely spent. Her hair was a mess, and her eyes were tinged with a faint pink at the corners.

Anthony came over with a glass of warm water. He supported her neck, his lips curled up in a teasing smile. “Here, drink a little.”

Charlotte lifted her eyes, catching sight of his perfect mouth. The memory of what just happened flashed in her mind. Without thinking, she kicked him hard.

Anthony caught her ankle and squeezed it playfully. “What’s this for?”

Charlotte’s courage fizzled. She shoved him away and rolled over, giving him nothing but the back of her head.

Anthony climbed onto the bed and pulled her, still fuming, into his arms. He looked at her, half amused, half exasperated. “You’re the one who said talk things out, not fight…”

She huffed. “Anthony, do you want to sleep with my 98K instead?”

He couldn’t help but laugh, a low, warm sound. He decided to stop teasing. His voice softened. “Alright, I’m done messing with you. Didn’t you have something to tell me?”

Charlotte let out a muffled noise. “Tomorrow, I’m going to Solenia. I want to check on my mom.”

“I’ll go with you.”

“No.” She pressed her lips together and spoke quietly. “Grandma’s just had heart surgery. Anything could happen. You have to stay here.”

Anthony didn’t say anything. He looked serious, deep in thought.

“…Fine. Come if you want,” Charlotte said, finally giving in, eyes closed and voice tired.

“Okay, I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow.”

A moment later, Hans appeared. “Charlotte, Anthony, the plane is ready whenever you are,” he said respectfully.

Anthony nodded. He handed Hans the suitcase, then buttoned Charlotte’s trench coat for her. His fingers traced her nose, gentle and warm. “When Grandma’s out of the woods, I’ll come find you.”

“Alright.” Charlotte nodded. As soon as the words left her lips, her fingers slipped out of Anthony’s hand. She realized her hand had gone weak again.

She tried to play it cool, giving him a quick wave as she turned and headed for the gate. “I’m off.”

Anthony didn’t move, just watched her walk away. His fingers curled into a fist. He’d noticed it—something was wrong with Lottie’s hand. That genetic mutation… was it showing symptoms this soon?

He pressed his lips together, thinking hard. After a long silence, his voice came out cold. “Get everything ready. We’re leaving for the Isle of Veil in two days.”

Did she really think he’d buy that excuse about Grandma? That he’d just sit tight and wait in Cabinda? She was flying to Solenia, then straight on to the Isle of Veil…

If he let himself get fooled by her again, he might as well quit being her boyfriend for good.
