The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 944

“Lottie, will you sleep with me tonight?”

Nora looked at her with such hope in her eyes that Charlotte couldn’t say no. “Sure.”

After dinner, Nora showed up at Charlotte’s bedroom door, hugging a pillow tight to her chest. Franco was right behind her, looking like he’d just lost his best friend.

“Lottie, can I come in too?”

Charlotte grinned and stretched out on her bed. “Did you two work this out? Did my dad say it’s okay?”

Nora frowned and shot Franco a look. “Tell her you agreed.”

Franco let out a dramatic sigh. “Fine, I agree but—”

Before he could finish, Nora shut the door in his face and bounced onto the bed, her whole face lighting up. “Lottie, come on, get in. Let’s sleep.”

Charlotte just stared for a second. Her poor dad. He’d really been through it all these years.

She slid under the covers, and as soon as she settled in, Nora scooted right up next to her, her big eyes shining. “Lottie, can I hold you while we sleep?”

Being held was still a little strange, especially after getting used to Anthony’s way of hugging her.

But she didn’t want to let Nora down. “Yeah, you can.”

So Nora wrapped her arms around her and gently stroked her hair. For the first time, Charlotte realized what it felt like to be held by her mom. It was actually really warm.

The next morning, Charlotte woke up with the blanket still covering her, but Nora was already gone.

After washing up, she headed for the stairs and heard noise coming from the kitchen.

Once the message sent, Nora deleted every trace of her activity.

The antidote had disappeared twenty years ago, but the formula was still somewhere on the Isle of Veil. No one knew exactly who had it. The researchers there were obsessed, and after waiting two decades, they finally had someone to study. They’d do whatever it took to get what they wanted.

If it meant Lottie could get the antidote, then Nora would do anything.

On the plane, Charlotte stepped into the cockpit and spoke quietly. “We’re not going back to Cabinda. Take us to the Isle of Veil.”

The pilot hesitated. “Charlotte, Anthony said—”

“You listen to Anthony, and Anthony listens to me,” Charlotte said, her voice cool and steady. “So tell me, who do you really answer to?”

The pilot swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes, Charlotte.”
