The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 978

“Why are you suddenly interested in Grandma’s stuff?”

Kenneth leaned against the doorframe, arms folded, looking at her with obvious confusion. He wasn’t working today, so he was just in a simple T-shirt and sweats. No makeup, his hair a little messy, but somehow that only made him look more handsome.

“Just looking for something,” Charlotte said.

She started pacing around the room, heading straight for her grandmother’s bedroom. Everything inside was perfectly organized, especially the jewelry. It was clear someone took care of these things all the time.

If there was a medical catalyst hidden here, it had to be with the medicine or maybe disguised as something else. She opened every box and drawer, carefully collecting anything that might be related. She really didn’t know what she was looking for… so she just grabbed anything that could possibly matter. She wasn’t going to miss any chance, no matter how small.

When she finished, Anthony took the jam-packed backpack from her and reached for her hand.

They started to head out. As they passed the door, Kenneth was staring at them, eyes wide and mouth hanging open. “What are you two doing? Robbing the place?”

They really were taking a lot of Grandma’s things.

Kenneth was a notorious blabbermouth. If he let it slip, Grandpa would start asking questions. Charlotte had no choice but to keep her cool. “I just need to borrow these for a while. I’ll bring them back soon.”

“Borrow them?” Kenneth echoed, looking skeptical.

Charlotte nodded with total seriousness. “I need you to cover for me with Grandpa, okay?”

Grandpa still came by all the time to reminisce. He’d notice right away if anything was missing.

“I don’t think I—”

“You can.” Charlotte patted his shoulder and met his eyes, her voice low and sincere. “I’ll write you some songs.”

Kenneth froze, caught off guard.

“Okay.” Charlotte pulled out her iPad and opened the email. Her brows furrowed as she read the message. It was about the election for DM’s chief patriarch—the person who would take over DM in the future.

She glanced at Anthony, who was clearly curious. “Oh, my mentor is the head of DM,” she explained quietly. “I promised him if he ever needed help, I’d go back for him.”

Anthony blinked, trying to process it. Lottie’s mentor was the boss of DM. He had Apex, she ran the N Organization, his parents had Solenia… Now Novaria was in the mix too.

If he really thought about it, if she reclaimed her place as the Hawk Family’s heir, she’d basically control half of Isle of Veil.

Anthony looked at Charlotte, eyes dark and thoughtful, his expression suddenly serious.

“What’s wrong?” Charlotte asked, raising her eyebrows.

He shook his head, then pulled her close, his lips brushing her ear as he let out a soft, helpless laugh. “Sometimes I wonder if I’m really good enough for you.”
