The Moment I Stepped Into His World as the Fake Girlfriend, I Became the Real Prize novel Chapter 145

Noticing how off he sounded, Elena finally registered the searing heat radiating from the palm clamped around her wrist.

"Are you sick?"

She asked out of instinct, tugging slightly in an attempt to free her hand.

But his grip was shockingly strong, and she couldn't break loose.

"Stop squirming. I just didn't sleep well."

Sterling didn't open his eyes, muttering the reply with deep lethargy.

"But your hand is burning, and you look terrible. Are you... running a fever?"

As she spoke, Elena lifted her injured hand and pressed her inner wrist firmly against his forehead.

It only took one second to confirm her suspicions. "Your temperature is way off. You are one hundred percent running a fever!"

Confirming his illness, she frowned in genuine confusion. "That's so weird. The weather's been fine lately. How did you get sick so suddenly?"

Sterling's eyelashes trembled violently as chaotic memories flooded his mind.

Ever since bringing Elena to The Hawthorne Estate, he had been forced to take at least one freezing shower a night. And early this morning, she had slipped into his bed wearing practically nothing...

He had spent an entire hour under that icy water just to kill the blinding ache of wanting her!

Yet here was the culprit herself, completely oblivious, staring at him with wide, innocent eyes, looking utterly perplexed.

"Sit still. Keep your distance and don't touch me!"

He snapped at the source of all his misery, his tone biting.

By now, students were filtering into the classroom, filling up the surrounding seats.

Elena lowered her voice, giving her trapped wrist a little shake. "Excuse me, you're the one refusing to let go of me~"

Sterling's hand stiffened. As if finally realizing what he was doing, he released her like she burned him.

With the room filling up, plenty of curious glances drifted their way.

Pretending to play on her phone, Elena strained her ears to eavesdrop. The moment she heard whispers confirming Lydia had rejected Julian's confession, she let out a massive sigh of relief.
