"No problem, it's just water."
The boy blushed deeply and quickly turned back around.
Elena checked the time, realizing the class was about to end.
Holding the water in one hand, she reached out with the other to poke the young man who was still turned away from her.
Sterling was in a foul mood and ignored her at first.
"Sterling, class is almost over. I'm supposed to be your girlfriend. If you keep ignoring me, people are going to get suspicious."
Hearing her soft reminder, he finally took a deep breath, slowly sat up, and turned to look at her.
He was immediately met with the sight of her offering a bottle of water, her smile laced with a hint of appeasement. "You must be thirsty. Here, consider this my apology."
Honestly, Sterling was feeling incredibly parched.
However, he didn't take it right away.
"I promise it's clean and completely sealed!"
Reassured by her bright, coaxing smile, Sterling finally accepted it with an air of haughty reluctance, muttering, "At least you have some sense."
He grabbed the bottle, twisted the cap off forcefully, and chugged down a generous amount, which helped extinguish the remaining heat in his system.
It was only when there was barely a quarter of the water left that he belatedly realized something.
"Where did you even get this?"
He remembered distinctly that she hadn't brought anything to drink.
"I bought it from a classmate."
Elena answered honestly, pointing toward the front. "Right there, the guy sitting in front of us. I saw he had an extra bottle, so I added his social media and bought it off him. Pretty smart, right?"
Bang.
Without any warning, Sterling shot a lethal glare at the guy sitting in front of them and slammed the bottle down on the desk, creating a harsh, echoing thud.
"You, in the back row! What is going on?"
Hearing the noise, the old professor snapped from the podium.
But he quickly recognized them as the overly affectionate couple from the hallway.
Fortunately, the bell rang at that exact moment. The professor decided it wasn't worth the headache and walked out, looking thoroughly exasperated.
