Sterling had faith that the girl was smart. Out of everyone present, she was the only one who knew she wasn't actually his girlfriend.
Because of that, he was absolutely certain she wouldn't actually throw the slap.
He never expected her to raise her hand, fully committing to the wind-up!
"Elena—"
"Smack!"
As Elena's hand swung down, Sterling instinctively shouted, reaching out to grab her wrist.
But he was a second too late. The girl delivered a crisp, resounding slap that echoed sharply through the air!
Sterling's hand grasped empty space, his heart leaping into his throat.
But a split second later, he realized something was off and immediately shifted his gaze.
The person who took the brutal hit wasn't Lydia. It was Sasha, who was standing right next to her!
Caught completely off guard, Sasha was stunned senseless.
Her already swollen cheek absorbed the vicious impact, and a fresh trickle of blood instantly oozed from the corner of her mouth.
Hearing the sharp crack of the slap but feeling absolutely no pain, Lydia confusingly opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was the girl who had just delivered the blow, smiling brightly at her while casually twirling the cherry blossom branch.
"Sasha..."
Lydia realized what had happened and frantically turned to Sasha.
Seeing that her friend had taken the hit, she whipped her head back to Elena, an uncharacteristic flash of pure fury in her eyes. "Elena, I said I would take the hit! Why did you slap her?"
Elena smiled, her tone as sweet as honey. "I really admire how willing you are to take the punishment for the main culprit. But unfortunately... I'm a person who knows right from wrong. If I just slapped innocent bystanders, Babe definitely wouldn't like me anymore~"
Staring at her sickeningly sweet smile, a surge of irrational rage flared in Lydia's chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
The next second, Elena turned her attention to Sasha. "I'm sorry. Even though you brought your friends to gang up on me, I should have gone easier on you. I shouldn't have hit you that hard."
After delivering the most insincere apology of the century, she turned back to Lydia. "There. You wanted an apology, and I just gave it to you. Are you happy now?"
