"Babe, do you want to... touch me?"
Seeing her persistent silence, Xavier felt a deep sense of shame, yet he refused to stop.
Suddenly, he forcefully grabbed Elena's hand, pressing it flat against his chest and guiding it back and forth.
From his chest, he trailed her palm down over his abs, tracing the sharp cut of his obliques and the deep V-line disappearing into his waist.
There was no denying Xavier's physical perfection, and he made sure Elena felt every inch of it.
The familiar touch was as intoxicating as she remembered.
"Babe, this white shirt doesn't suit you."
Taking her compliance as an invitation, Xavier stared at the oversized men's dress shirt she wore, leaning in to cage her against the bed with a seductive edge.
"Let me take it off for you, alright?"
At that moment, Elena thought back to the online thread Jade had shared with her.
The anonymous poster, without a doubt, had been Xavier.
And...
Having dated him before, she knew exactly what this display was—a blatant attempt to seduce her.
"Mr. Hawthorne, please let me go. This isn't appropriate."
As his fingers hooked the loose collar of her shirt, attempting to slide it off her shoulder.
Elena finally spoke, her words a sharp rejection. "Have you ever considered how Sterling would feel if he caught us like this?"
"My boyfriend told me he's closest to you. If he found out his beloved brother was trying to sleep with his girlfriend, how could he ever look at you again?"
Elena pushed herself up from the bed, tipping her chin up to meet his gaze head-on.
She caught a glimpse of the dark, stormy abyss swirling in his eyes.
"Sterling is young. He has endless options. You were never his only choice."
When Xavier spoke again, his voice was chilled to the bone.
He sounded utterly arrogant. "I just have to tell him you're my missing ex-girlfriend, and he'll back off immediately. He would never turn against me over some woman!"
