Elena muttered her complaints, standing up from his bed.
Complaints aside, the young man's thoughts were painfully easy to read.
He clearly despised her background, yet he was forced to tolerate her presence.
After all, they would inevitably have more physical contact moving forward; no amount of disgust could change that.
"If I hadn't hit back against someone like Sasha, I would've been the one getting destroyed!"
Elena abruptly shifted to a serious explanation.
"But Sterling, the whole reason she cornered me was because she pegged me as the other woman! She's Lydia's best friend. If Lydia didn't have feelings for you, why would Sasha jump to that conclusion?"
Sterling's expression hardened as he casually packed away the ointment. "What are you getting at?"
"I'm getting at the fact that Lydia definitely likes you. Otherwise, her best friend wouldn't have assumed my presence was wrecking your relationship!"
"Based on that, I'm genuinely curious why she rejects you every single time you confess."
Listening to her breakdown, Sterling didn't offer any confirmation, merely issuing his standard warning.
"Just do your job. The rest is none of your business."
Elena caught the scent of alcohol radiating from him and noticed the half-empty bottle of liquor sitting by the French windows.
"One shock isn't enough. I'll make sure to provoke Lydia even more moving forward, pushing her to accept you sooner!"
Elena pledged confidently, "As long as she has feelings for you, I have all the energy and tricks in the world to push her into admitting it."
Hearing her repeatedly bring up Lydia, Sterling scoffed softly. "Are you that certain you're right?"
Even he wasn't sure what the girl of his dreams was truly thinking.
Confessions weren't working, so he had been forced to take an unconventional route.
Elena's appearance had indeed triggered a reaction, and he fully intended to keep using her to test the waters.
"Girls understand girls best. If I help you win Lydia over, will you give me an extra bonus?"
Sterling frowned, recalling the five million dollars he had just transferred to her.
"Isn't what I'm giving you already enough?"
