The Monster at My Feet novel Chapter 13

The bottle shattered, instantly turning Caleb's head into a bloody mess. The girls shrieked in terror while the guys cursed, scrambling forward to pull the attacker off.

But the man in black, his face obscured, fought like a rabid dog. It was impossible to drag him away. He delivered a brutal kick that sent one guy flying, then brought his fists down on Caleb's face, blood splattering with every vicious impact.

"Security! Where's security?!"

"Who the hell is this psycho?!"

The room descended into absolute chaos. Sylvie had been startled, but her reflexes kicked in immediately. She vaulted behind the sofa, securing the safest vantage point, and watched the unfolding madness with wide eyes.

Lucas roared, grabbing a broken bottleneck, and swung it hard at the man's back. The attacker didn't even grunt in pain. He whirled around, grabbed a jagged piece of glass, and ruthlessly thrust it toward Lucas!

Lucas scrambled backward, collapsing onto the floor. Clutching his bleeding arm, he gasped in pain, too terrified to move any closer. The five guys combined couldn't stop the uninvited guest.

While silently marveling at the carnage, Sylvie tried to get a good look at the man's face. Unfortunately, he was dressed head-to-toe in black, wearing a baseball cap and a mask, and his back had been turned to her the entire time. All she could see was his tense, broad shoulders and narrow waist.

No one dared to intervene anymore, praying for security to arrive. Why were the bouncers taking so long tonight?

The man's fists kept dropping, as if he couldn't feel any pain. Hit after hit, until Caleb stopped struggling completely.

"Um," the young girl spoke up, her voice hilariously out of place in the bloodbath. It was quiet, but somehow, the man heard her.

He flinched violently. His fist veered off course, slamming into the hard floor. It sounded excruciating.

"Um, he looks a little bit dead," Sylvie offered helpfully.

She fully expected her friendly warning to be ignored, but shockingly, it worked. The man froze, as if jolted awake from a trance.

The heavy thud of security boots finally echoed down the hallway. The man stood up abruptly, his balance faltering for a second. His back rose and fell with rapid, ragged breaths, and his blood-soaked fingertips were visibly trembling.
