Jasper Zimmer was finally hauled off to the hospital, but his three missing fingers were gone forever, likely ending up in the belly of a stray dog.
The atmosphere in the banquet hall completely shifted. Almost everyone in that room had some skeletons in their closet, vulnerabilities Caspian Graves could exploit. No one knew why the unpredictable psychopath had suddenly decided to start settling scores tonight. The phantom scent of blood seemed to hang in the air. Unable to handle the suffocating pressure, several guests abandoned their networking opportunities and fled early.
Not a single soul dared to look at Caspian's face.
Except Sylvie.
When she had allowed Jasper to drag her toward the rooms, her original plan had been to slice him up and leave him missing a few crucial parts. It would have just been a bit annoying to clean up the mess afterward. She never expected someone else to do the dirty work for her.
The young girl paced back and forth, trying to find an angle to get a good look at the man. But no matter where she stood, the hulking bodyguard perfectly positioned himself between her and Caspian.
If she took a step, the bodyguard mirrored her.
Sylvie sighed. So far, the only time she had seen his face was during that split-second eye contact. It was too fast, but she remembered he was incredibly handsome. Clearly, this guy absolutely despised any form of interaction, even eye contact.
Disappointed, she finally looked away.
Right at that moment, Lawrence marched over, looking visibly shaken. But this time, his anger wasn't directed at Sylvie; instead, he cast a fearful, guarded glance toward Caspian's corner.
"I didn't expect Jasper to end up like that... forget it. I'll introduce you to someone else next time. Behave yourself."
If you ignored the actual content of his words, he sounded exactly like a strict but loving father lecturing his child.
The young girl nodded, looking impossibly obedient. "Okay, Dad."
Lawrence nodded in satisfaction. His earlier frustration had completely evaporated when Jasper managed to piss off Caspian. He was secretly thanking his lucky stars that Sylvie hadn't gotten involved with Jasper yet. If that psycho decided to take his anger out on the Lawson family by association, they would be ruined.
