Martha was dumbfounded. "You! Fine! I'm calling Mrs. Lawson right now! You absolute psycho!"
She yanked out her phone and started dialing. Suddenly, her eye twitched.
Sylvie had smoothly pulled a steak knife from the butcher block, the silver blade flashing right in front of the woman's face.
The razor-sharp edge hovered a millimeter from Martha's eyeball, cleanly slicing off a lock of her hair.
Martha's hand violently shook, dropping the phone to the floor. She stared at the girl in sheer terror.
Sylvie looked back with wide, innocent eyes. "If you don't confess, I'm going to kill you."
"Your fingerprints are the only ones on that bowl, yet you're lying right to my face. It really makes me want to cut out your tongue and carve out your eyes."
Martha was paralyzed.
Her scalp went entirely numb.
Her mind went blank.
Amid the paralyzing fear, a horrifying realization hit her: the girl had held the bowl with her sleeves. Her fingerprints really were the only ones on the glass.
Sylvie sniffled delicately. "You're awfully quiet. Did your conscience finally kick in? Are you done trying to frame me?
"Well then, I'm off to school."
She tossed the knife into the sink, grabbed her backpack, and strolled out of the kitchen like absolutely nothing had happened.
Just as she reached the door, she glanced back and flashed a devastatingly sweet smile.
The morning sun backlit her silhouette, casting her delicate features in dark shadows—beautiful, angelic, and utterly demonic.
Martha was left standing in the kitchen, her heart hammering against her ribs, a cold sweat drenching her back.
It took her a long time to find her voice, her face pale as a sheet.
"She's an actual psychopath..."
-
Sylvie practically skipped down the driveway, giggling to herself.
That performance was thrilling.
Playing the victim was just too much fun.
But her good mood evaporated a minute later.
She suddenly realized that without the family driver, and with all her credit cards frozen by Helena, she had zero cash.
She didn't even have bus fare.
Was she supposed to walk miles to campus?
