The Monster at My Feet novel Chapter 33

The text was short, perfectly matching his usual rigid style.

[Report for your shift at Echo Coffee on the east side of Griffin Academy's North Gate this afternoon.]

Wow!

For a VIP with an impossibly packed schedule like Caspian, he had arranged this remarkably fast.

She was familiar with the coffee shop.

Griffin Academy was the most elite prep school in the city, and all the high-end retail in the surrounding area was strictly owned by Griffin Enterprises.

Echo was their premier, ultra-luxury coffee brand.

Recently, it had even gone viral online because their hiring standards were notoriously insane—demanding Ivy-league educations and model-tier looks just for regular barista positions.

Naturally, that also meant top-tier pay.

She had looked into it before. The elite academy didn't offer any on-campus work-study programs, and the luxury boutiques off-campus never hired part-time students.

If it weren't for Caspian pulling strings, she honestly wouldn't have known how to legally build up her bank account while attending classes.

The girl immediately typed out a reply:

[Got it~ Thank you so much, Mr. Graves. You're a total lifesaver. Have a wonderful day~]

She hit send, looking up only to meet Lucas's deeply furrowed brow.

The teenager stared at her smiling lips, his tone inexplicably stiff.

"Who was that?"

Sylvie hadn't expected the sudden interrogation. As she looked at him, the sweet smile hadn't yet faded from her lips.

"Just a Good Samaritan I met a while ago."

Her ambiguous answer made it clear she didn't want to elaborate.

Lucas felt like pressing the issue would make him seem weird.

But letting it go left a strange, uncomfortable knot in his chest.

He opened his mouth, swallowing back the flood of comforting words he had been ready to pour out.

The interior of the cab fell into silence.

Sylvie, on the other hand, was in fantastic spirits, already buzzing with excitement for her afternoon shift.

Her university major was Philosophy.

This, of course, had been arranged by Lawrence.

Philosophy was the safest, most inconsequential major available.

It was incredibly easy to fake your way through it to get a degree, making it the top choice for rich heirs and socialites who just needed the credential.

But Sylvie surprisingly loved it.
