Helena walked up to her, expression totally deadpan, looking down at her from her high horse.

"Scared now, you little bitch?"

"You had such a big mouth yesterday. Go on, repeat what you said to my face!"

Sylvie wrung her fingers, looking up at her with utter confusion and panic. "Helena, what did I say? How could I ever disrespect you?"

Helena scoffed. "Still playing dumb? You deserve an Oscar!"

The young girl cast a desperate, pleading look at the man behind her.

She had seen him once at her first family dinner. His name was Hugo Ward—Lawrence's assistant and Helena's distant cousin.

"I don't know what's going on. Helena, there must be a misunderstanding! What did I do wrong? I promise I'll fix it..."

She looked like a fragile flower trembling in a storm, frantically searching for a lifeline.

Hugo faltered for a second.

Helena let out a dark laugh. "What a performance. Get on your knees!"

Without waiting, she raised the wooden ruler and brought it slashing down toward Sylvie's back!

Sylvie scrambled back a few steps, narrowly dodging the blow, and curled into a tight ball behind the sofa.

"Hugo! What the hell are you staring at? Grab her!" Helena glared daggers at him.

But Hugo didn't move. He looked at his cousin hesitantly.

"Helena, are you sure there isn't a misunderstanding here?"

Helena felt her blood pressure skyrocket.

"You idiot! This little bitch called me a dog to my face yesterday, and you're buying her innocent act? You trust her over me?! Don't forget, Hugo, you'd be rotting in the gutter right now if it wasn't for me!"

Showered in insults, Hugo's face darkened, but he didn't dare talk back.

Sylvie burst into loud, heartbroken sobs.

"Helena, why are you framing me like this? You know I wouldn't dare disrespect you! I never called anyone names!"

"I don't have a mother. Nobody loves me. I thought I finally had a real home..."
