Silas brought both arms up to protect his face. I tore one down and buried my fist in his ribs. He folded with a grunt. I dragged him upright just to slam him back against the wall.

Four days I’d had no idea where she was.

I’d walked past her empty room every fucking morning. Seen her books on the desk, clothes she’d left behind, stupid little pieces of her everywhere while my mind supplied every horrible thing someone could be doing to her.

I hadn’t known if she was hurt.

I caught him by the throat and drove him into the wall, squeezing until his next breath died halfway in. His mouth opened, but nothing came out. His hands flew to my wrist, fingers digging and pulling as his face darkened.

I squeezed harder.

His heels scraped against the floor.

“ZANE!”

Someone grabbed me from behind. I tore free without bothering to see who it was.

Silas was already sliding down the wall, blood running over his mouth and chin.

I went after him.

“You wanted an Ashton?”

I caught him by the throat and dragged him back up. His legs barely seemed to know what to do beneath him.

“You’ve got one.”

I drew my fist back, ready to keep hitting until there was nothing left of his face I could recognize.

“Zane.”

I froze.

That wasn’t Landon.

“Please.”

Astra.

My fist stayed exactly where it was.

Slowly, I turned.

She was still tied to the chair. Even more tears covered her face, her whole body trembling against the restraints.

She was looking at me.

And there was fear in her eyes.

My stomach dropped.
