Rhys shook off her hand and strode out of the room.

Seeing his darkened expression, Veronica called out, "Where are you going? How is Margot?"

He ignored her, rushing headlong into the biting wind.

The car door slammed shut. Rhys drove aimlessly, wandering the streets of Brighton City without a destination.

Eventually, he rolled to a stop outside the West Gate of Ashton University.

Rhys lowered the window and lit a cigarette.

As the smoke curled into the cold air, he narrowed his eyes, staring at an unassuming stone bollard by the roadside.

It was Clara's favorite spot to sit and watch him.

"Mr. Reed, tell her to meet me at City Hall tomorrow morning at nine."

Mr. Reed was surprised by his decisiveness. "Understood. I will inform Miss Bridges. I assume you know which documents to bring."

"I know."

Rhys hung up and tossed the phone onto the passenger seat.

He kept staring at the empty stone bollard, eyes burning as if he'd been staring into wind and regret.

If it hadn't come to this, she probably would have never agreed to see him again.

Even if it was for a divorce, he just wanted to see her one more time.
