The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 169

The next day was bright and sunny. Clara's mom arrived early in the morning.

"Drink it."

She pushed a bowl of fish soup toward Clara, then went to the balcony to bring in the laundry.

"I don't know about you, child. It's not like there's no room at home, but you insisted on running out here. There's no elevator, so climbing up and down is exhausting. What if..."

She stopped herself, quickly knocked on the wooden table to ward off bad luck, and switched to nagging about something else. "When are you going to pick up the divorce certificate?"

Clara held the bowl, sipping the soup in small spoonfuls, and mumbled, "Another eighteen or nineteen days. Mr. Reed will contact me."

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Clara and her mom froze simultaneously.

"Who is it? Doesn't Simon have a key?"

" probably a delivery," Clara guessed. "Simon might have bought some random junk again."

Clara's mom went to open the door. Standing outside was a tall, handsome man.

He had gentle features, was dressed impeccably, and was holding two boxes of cherries and strawberries.

He didn't look like a delivery guy by any stretch.

Clara's mom stood stunned in the doorway. "Who are you looking for?"

Noah peered into the room, his gaze landing on Clara, who was burying her face in the soup. He spoke politely:

"Hello, Mrs. Bridges. I'm looking for Clara."

Hearing his voice, Clara jumped and hurriedly stood up. "Why are you here? Are you not working?"

Noah nodded with a smile. "It's my day off. A friend gave me some fruit, and I couldn't finish it alone, so I brought some up for you to taste."

He made it sound as if they were already close enough for casual drop-ins.

Clara's mom eyed him suspiciously. "Clara, is this your friend?"

Before Clara could figure out how to introduce him, Noah took the initiative.

"Hello, Mrs. Bridges, I'm Noah."
