On the twentieth day of the cooling-off period, the cherry blossoms at Ashton University burst into bloom.
Noah had an exchange meeting at the Ashton University Medical School that afternoon and brought Clara along for the ride.
As he put it, it wasn't good for a pregnant woman to be cooped up indoors all day. She needed to get out, walk around, and get some sun—natural calcium for the baby to grow strong.
He made Clara feel like she was some rare species of potted plant.
Beneath the cherry blossom avenue, the wind blew, scattering pink and white petals across the ground.
"What are you thinking about?"
A cup of lemon tea appeared in front of her.
Clara took it, cradling it in her palms. "Nothing much. I was just thinking that the school hasn't really changed at all."
It was the same path, the same rows of cherry trees.
Even the hot dog stand by the main gate was still there; she could smell the savory aroma from yards away.
Back when she was a student, she loved pestering Rhys to buy her hot dogs from there, insisting on extra cheese sauce.
Rhys would tell her not to eat it, calling it junk food, but he would eventually cave to her wheedling. Frowning, he would pay for it and hold it up to her mouth.
Noah followed her gaze. "Want one? Professor Ward said that occasionally, a pregnant woman's cravings are doctor-approved."
Clara laughed and shook her head. "No. I passed the age of loving junk food a long time ago."
Noah nodded understandingly. "Alright then. Come on, I'll take you somewhere."
The place he mentioned was the spectator stands of the West Stadium.
The steps were steep. Clara held the railing, climbing up one by one.
Since getting pregnant, she had spent so much time resting at home that her stamina had dropped. After only a dozen steps, her breathing became uneven.
She didn't try to push herself, stopping to lean against the railing to catch her breath.
