The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 186

Oh god. Clara couldn't fathom how he'd made eggs this salty.

"Well? How is it?" Simon stared at her with puppy-dog eyes, waiting for praise. "Is it absolutely heavenly?"

Clara forced herself to swallow the mouthful of scrambled eggs. "Mmm... it is indeed... shocking."

Simon beamed with pride and shoveled a large portion into his own mouth.

"I knew I had a tal— urgh!"

His face turned green the moment the food hit his tongue. He rushed to the trash can and retched violently.

After he finished emptying his stomach, he grabbed a glass of water and downed it in one go, looking at Clara in disbelief. "Clara, has pregnancy killed your taste buds? How could you swallow something that vile?"

Clara picked up a slice of toast and spread a little ketchup on it.

"It's edible," she said, eating slowly. "Better than poison, at least."

Simon watched her eat his culinary disaster bite by bite. His hand, which had been reaching for his phone to order takeout, hovered in mid-air.

In the past, Clara had been picky. Back in the Ashton University cafeteria, she would complain for ages if her bread was slightly stale. Now, she was hiding out here, forcing down his terrible cooking.

It wasn't fair.

"Stop eating it." Simon reached out to snatch the plate away, his voice slightly hoarse. "Don't eat it, Clara. Let's order delivery. I'm craving Pizza Hut."

Clara dodged his hand and protected the bowl. "What are you doing? It's fine."

She genuinely felt it was acceptable.

"It looks awful, but it's still food. And it's got protein. I didn't throw up, which means Peanut doesn't mind. The baby likes it."

Simon's eyes reddened as he listened.

Simon turned his head to look.

"A while yet. I read online that some people don't show until four or five months." He looked her up and down, clicking his tongue in exaggerated appraisal. "Besides, you're so skinny. You probably won't get huge anyway."

"Too skinny?" Clara frowned, worried. "Will that mean I'm malnourished? Will it affect the baby's development?"

"Now you're worried?" Simon turned off the tap and flicked the water from his hands. "A minute ago, asking you to eat two more bites of egg was like pulling teeth. Relax, didn't Noah say as long as you eat well and stay happy, the kid will be fine?"

Clara nodded, smiling. "Alright."

Simon asked, "So, should I show off my skills again for dinner?"

"Maybe we should stick to grilled steak?" Clara suggested earnestly. "Your marinades are actually good."

Simon rolled his eyes. "Tch. You have no taste."
