The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 191

After breakfast, Clara went to freshen up and change her clothes.

Although Noah had told her not to worry, this was her first pregnancy, and without any prior experience, she still felt the need to go and check that everything was alright.

Before leaving, she glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall.

April 6th. Only two days left until they finalized the divorce.

In forty-eight hours, she and Rhys would no longer have any ties to one another.

Clara withdrew her gaze, opened the door, and stepped out.

It was just past eleven o'clock when she left the hospital; the check-up results were all normal.

Thinking she should buy some things for her parents and grab lunch while she was out, Clara headed to Haven Mall.

There was a restaurant on the fifth floor that made a comforting chicken soup she used to love. She used to go there often.

The doctor had advised a bland diet, so the soup would be perfect.

Clara served herself a bowl. Then she heard someone call her name.

"Clara?"

Clara looked up to see Wendy standing by the aisle, arm-in-arm with Liam Huntington, holding several shopping bags.

As the model couple of Brighton's elite circle, they were impeccable whenever they appeared in public. Even their communication carried a polite, mutual respect, though Liam's posture was always subtly angled to protect Wendy.

This was the standard relationship for a power couple in their world.

No passionate, messy entanglement, just years of quiet understanding and polish..

"Liam, Wendy."

Clara put down her spoon and greeted them politely.

Wendy's expression shifted slightly, and she seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

"I thought it was you from a distance. You look much better than you did around the holidays. Why are you eating here alone?"

She glanced at the simple set meal in front of Clara, then looked back at the crowded dining hall. "Since we've run into each other, why don't you join us? We booked a private room; it's too noisy out here."

Liam looked at Clara, his gaze lingering on her cold face for a second.

He sighed internally.

"Even if you're busy, take care of your health," he didn't push it. "If there's anything you need, you can always come to us."

"Thanks, Liam, but I don't think that will be necessary."

Clara picked up her bag, nodded to the couple, and turned to leave without hesitation.

Wendy watched her figure disappear around the corner, sighed, and turned to her husband. "It looks like it's really serious this time. Clara would never have spoken to us like that before."

"It's Rhys who went too far."

Liam withdrew his gaze, his tone growing cold. "He dared to bring that Margot woman home on Christmas. Now that it's come to this, he deserves it."

Wendy looked worried. "I feel like something is different about Clara. She was too polite to us."

Liam looked thoughtful. "Polite is good. Polite means she has no expectations. And having no expectations means she won't be hurt anymore."
