The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 214

Simon immediately pulled out his phone. "I'm contacting the agent right now. We'll also need a large SUV—something comfortable for taking your son and parents out. You trust my taste in cars, right?"

"Approved."

Cameron watched from the side, stunned. This junior classmate wasn't just beautiful; her financial power was terrifying.

Dinner was prepared by Clara's mom. The seafood in Heron Bay was famously rich.

The steamed grouper was firm and bouncy, the blanched king prawns were massive and fresh, and the oyster omelet was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, smelling divine.

Cameron tried to leave, but Clara's dad insisted he stay. Cameron had an easygoing personality, and after a few drinks, he and Mr. Bridges were practically acting like brothers.

Toward the end of the meal, Cameron remembered business.

"Oh, right. Tomorrow morning at nine, I've set everything up at the Women's and Children's Hospital. The head of obstetrics, Dr. Grace Sterling, is a senior from our program. Her skills are top-notch."

Clara's parents exchanged a look.

Cameron continued, "Noah specifically instructed us to open a completely new file. Don't worry, no one will ask about your past. The doctors only care about your vitals and the future."

Clara nodded, raising her glass of juice toward Cameron. "Thank you, Cameron. I appreciate all the effort."

Cameron quickly raised his wine glass to clink against hers. "My pleasure. We're all friends here."

After seeing Cameron off, Clara's parents, exhausted from the travel, went to bed early. Simon retreated to his room to video call his girlfriend.

Clara took a shower and went out to the terrace.

The moon had risen, its reflection shattered into shimmering silver by the waves. It was quiet. Standing there, she could only hear the sound of the ocean.

This was a brand new place. No more late-night sounds of the door opening. No more anxiety waiting for love, waiting for disappointment. No more Rhys.

"Peanut, do you like it here? This is our new home."

She touched her lower abdomen gently, wondering when she would start to feel the baby kick.

She placed the phone face down on her lap, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath of the salty air.

...

Back in Brighton City.

Rhys tapped on the pinned avatar, staring at the blank profile.

Clara loved sharing her life. Even a flower by the roadside was worth posting for him to see. Her feed had always been lively.

But now, he had been shut out of that liveliness.

He pulled down to refresh the screen. The loading wheel spun, then the page snapped back to the same blank state.

Rhys stared at the restricted view for a long time. Finally, he placed his phone face down on the desk, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes.
