The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 22

"Get up first."

"No. Not unless you say you won't leave."

His kiss fell, tracing along her neck, moving upward, seeking her lips.

Clara turned her head to dodge him, an indescribable sourness welling up in her eyes. "Rhys, get the hell off me!"

She began to struggle, using her elbows to jab him and her feet to kick him.

He let out a muffled grunt but didn't let go. Instead, he cupped her face and kissed her hard.

Clara's resistance seemed so insignificant against his offensive.

She gasped, "Rhys, you're a jerk."

But physical memory was more honest than the brain.

The desire he had cultivated in her over two years was craving his rougher, more thorough possession.

Rhys mumbled vaguely, "Clara, smell it. Do you smell another woman on me?"

He knew how much she cared about that.

Sure enough, Clara stopped struggling.

Rhys looked down at her. Her eyes were red, and she looked soft and pitiful, as if she had been bullied terribly.

His heart softened, and he lowered his head to kiss the wet corners of her eyes.

"Crying?"

Only then did she realize she was actually crying. The tears flowed harder.

Rhys kissed her face while whispering in her ear, "Isn't it a little early to be crying?"

Just as Rhys didn't understand Clara, Clara didn't understand the current Rhys.

Why was it that when she decided to let him go, he refused to release her?

He knew there was a thorn in her heart, yet he still did this.

Clara seriously suspected he was just enjoying the feeling of being needed by her.

So she cried even harder, scratching and biting him. Rhys took it all, holding her tighter.

When it was over, Rhys carried her to the bathroom to clean up.

The warm water washed over her body. Clara leaned against his chest, too tired to move a single finger.

He dried her off, carried her back to bed, and tucked her in.

The room finally fell quiet.
