The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 253

Dr. Warren was shocked.

"Your son? You're married? Since when? I never heard anything about it!"

It was too sudden! The quiet, reserved Noah Carter had a son old enough to walk and talk without anyone knowing?

"It's been a few years," Noah replied calmly, lying without batting an eye. "My wife and the boy have been living down south. She prefers a quiet life and didn't want a spectacle, so we didn't hold a wedding or notify everyone."

Dr. Warren's gaze fell on Felix again.

Since it was Noah's son, it didn't matter who his eyes resembled—he probably just took after his mother.

"What's his name?" Recovering from his shock, Warren tried to be friendly with the child.

Noah turned his head and spoke softly to the little boy resting on his shoulder. "Son, say hello."

Felix was a smart child with an uncanny sensitivity to situations.

He lay on Noah's shoulder, feeling the arms around him holding him tighter than usual.

Uncle Noah had never called him "Son" before. Although he didn't know the exact reason, he knew Noah was protecting him.

And Mom had said he had to listen to Uncle Noah when they were outside.

If Noah said he was his son, then he was his son right now.

The little boy wrapped his arms around Noah's neck, buried his face in the crook of his neck, exposing only one ear, and whispered, "Hello, sir."

The voice was so small it was barely audible.

Seeing the child was shy, Dr. Warren didn't press further. He laughed heartily. "Alright, good lad. He seems very well-behaved. Bring the wife and kid over to the house sometime when you're free."

"Definitely," Noah nodded.

Once Dr. Warren and his family had walked away with the dog, Noah carried the child quickly across the boardwalk.

"Dad... Noah?"

Felix whispered, catching himself. "Does telling lies make your nose grow long?"

Uncle Noah had just lied. And he was really good at it.

One minute she was complaining the reception hall was too warm and her makeup would melt, the next she was worried her shoes for the ceremony were too hard and would blister her feet.

Simon was getting dizzy just watching her pace.

"Emily, you're getting married, not running a marathon. Those shoes cost thousands; they weren't designed for walking. If it's that bad, just go barefoot. The lawn is soft, and it'll look like you're 'returning to nature.'"

"Get lost," Emily grabbed a throw pillow and hurled it at him. "Details determine success or failure!"

Simon caught the pillow and stuffed it behind his back, jerking his chin toward the side. "Learn from Mr. Reed over there. Stoic as a statue even when the sky is falling."

Daniel sat aside, reconfirming the guest list for tomorrow. He hadn't heard a word Simon said, but he happened to let out a sigh.

Emily heard it immediately.

She whipped around to glare at him. "Daniel, why are you sighing? Are you annoyed with me? We haven't even started yet and you're already annoyed?"

Daniel froze, then immediately rushed over, bowing and scraping to soothe her, making the others in the room wince at the display.

Distracted by the bickering, Emily's pre-wedding anxiety dissipated. She huffed, then turned her attention to Felix, who was playing with a Rubik's cube on the other end of the sofa.
