"What do you want to eat? I'll make it."
Clara paused, then lowered her eyes to hide the mockery in them.
Before, just to eat a meal made by him, she would circle him like a puppy for three days.
Now look at this.
He hugged someone outside, and now he came back to play chef.
Thinking of the young couple at the hospital, Clara didn't hold back. "Seafood chowder."
Rhys took out his phone to place an order, then turned into the kitchen.
Before long, the grocery delivery arrived, and the sound of chopping vegetables came from the kitchen.
Clara stared unblinkingly at his back.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist. He looked domestic yet sexy in an apron; it was indeed pleasing to the eye.
His energy was certainly boundless.
After serving that side, he could still come back to serve this side.
An hour later, several delicious-looking dishes were on the table.
Color, aroma, and taste were all perfect; even the plating was meticulous.
Rhys sat down and spoke seemingly casually, "I had that trending topic taken down."
Clara's hand holding the fork paused.
So he had known all along.
"Why take it down? The photo was taken quite nicely. I thought it was a good match too."
"The road conditions were bad that day, and the ambulance couldn't make it in time, so I carried her to the police car to get her to the hospital."
Rhys served himself some rice, his voice steady. "In that situation, I would have saved anyone."
Clara nodded, put the rib in her mouth, and chewed slowly.
"Mhm. You're a police officer. It was the right thing to do."
The words sounded sarcastic no matter how you heard them. Rhys tightened his grip on his fork.
He put down the fork and reached out to cover her left hand, which was resting on the table.
"Clara, don't be like this."
Clara let him hold her hand, glancing at the bracelet on her wrist.
"Like what? I'm praising you." She smiled, though her eyes were barren. "For the sake of such an expensive bracelet, I can't be unreasonable, right?"
If something like this had happened before, she would have exploded long ago.
