As the nurse removed the needle, Rhys stared at the tiny bead of blood that welled up, his face reverting to its usual silent, withdrawn expression.

He initially resisted the wheelchair, but one cold glance from Clara had him meekly sinking into it.

When they arrived at the respiratory department, the nurses at the station and several doctors recognized him. Seeing a beautiful woman with him this time, they all greeted him. "Mr. Huntington, back again."

Hearing their casual remarks, Clara's brow twitched. Being a familiar face in a hospital was hardly something to be proud of.

After getting him settled in a hospital bed, Mia stood by his side, her face looking even paler than the man lying down.

Her phone had buzzed several times, and with each glance at the screen, her frown deepened.

Clara noticed and spoke up. "You should head back now."

Mia started, looking from her nephew on the bed back to Clara. "But Rhys…"

"Your nurse will be here soon. Nothing will happen," Clara said. "Old Mr. Huntington can't be left alone, and you can't handle running back and forth between the two of them."

Mia sighed.

At her age, the strain was indeed too much; her head was already throbbing. Rhys's father was just upstairs, and his condition wasn't much better. She really couldn't be away for too long.

Rhys leaned against the headboard, his voice muffled by the oxygen mask. "Auntie, go back. Listen to Clara."

"Clara." Mia took Clara's hand. "Auntie knows she shouldn't trouble you, but with him like this… I'm truly afraid that if I look away for a second, he'll do something reckless again. Tonight, could you possibly…"

She couldn't bring herself to say the words "stay with him," but it was obvious that he wouldn't listen to anyone but Clara.

Clara said calmly, "Take care on your way out."

After seeing Mia off, Rhys removed the oxygen mask, trying to sit up straighter.
