The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 4

Just as she started to sit up to remind him, he pushed her back down with dominating force.

Scalding kisses landed by her ear as he used that voice she was most defenseless against to whisper a low seduction.-

"Didn't you always want a child?"

"Clara, let's have a baby, okay?"

This was the response she had spent the last year begging, pleading, and using every trick for, yet never received.

The thorn in her heart seemed to instantly melt away under these sweet words.

Two hours later, Rhys finally stopped. Satisfied, he kissed her sweat-dampened cheek.

"I'm going to shower."

Clara grabbed him.

Rhys, who had already started to get up, lay back down when he saw her expression, thinking he had hurt her. He asked patiently:

"What's wrong?"

Clara struggled internally for a long time before speaking. "You got a message on your phone this morning."

"...And?"

"Are you really not going to explain?"

Rhys's eyes darkened slightly. "I have nothing to explain."

Again with the 'nothing to explain.'

Clara lay on the bed, staring unblinkingly at the ceiling.

Just minutes ago, he was kissing her over and over, saying let's have a baby.

That tenderness had made her think the two-month freeze was finally thawing.

She turned her head to look at Rhys's profile.

"Rhys, do you think that just because you agreed to have a child, I shouldn't ask any questions? That I should just shut up, lie there, and be done with it?"

"Clara, I don't want to fight." He avoided her question.

"I didn't want to fight either."

Clara sat up. The quilt slipped from her shoulders, revealing the love bites he had left behind.

"I'm just confirming. After all, this is the first time you've agreed to a child. It's a big deal to me. I need to understand the terms and conditions."

Rhys's brow furrowed deep. He didn't like her using that tone.
