Alex held the menu and ordered, asking quietly, "Clara, anything to drink today? Should we open the red wine we saved last time?"
Clara waved her hand. "No drinking. I quit."
Simon glanced at her. "I thought you weren't trying for a baby anymore?"
Clara saw the looks of panic on their faces and couldn't help rolling her eyes.
"What are you thinking? Gastritis. I finally got a little better. If I drink myself into the ER again, I'll really have to spend the holidays in the hospital."
"Scared me to death."
Simon let out a sigh of relief. "Good. If you made a baby at this critical juncture, you'd really be trapped."
He put on a conspiratorial face. "If you were really pregnant, wouldn't Margot be slipping abortion pills into your food like in some palace drama every day?"
"She wouldn't dare." Clara laughed coldly. "If she dared to make a move, I'd call the police and have Rhys personally put the handcuffs on her and send her in."
The food arrived quickly.
Maybe Noah's words had an effect, but Clara's appetite was surprisingly good today.
Simon asked, "So what's your plan now? What did the lawyer say?"
Mentioning this made Clara feel a blockage in her chest.
"Insufficient evidence."
Simon: "Mental cheating is still cheating! Just because the body isn't dirty, does it make it clean if the brain is dirty?"
Clara felt helpless. "How do I prove it? Based on my feelings? The judge doesn't trust my sixth sense."
Simon rolled his eyes, mischief bubbling up.
"Then drag it out. If he won't divorce, just disgust him to death. Move into my place. If Rhys comes looking for you..."
He pointed at Alex. "Make him go to the door and cry holding Rhys, saying I'm your new love, and ask him to let us poor lovebirds be."
Alex: "?"
Clara slapped him. "Do you want me to leave with nothing and then get beaten to death by Ms. Maeve?"
After joking around for a while, Clara's mood improved slightly.
"I still have to go back. It's almost Christmas, after all. I have to stand my last watch."
She looked at the ring on her ring finger, her gaze gradually becoming cold and hard.
Rhys owed her five years of youth and sincerity. If he couldn't pay with love, he would have to pay with money.
"After we eat, accompany me to buy some clothes."
"Sure!" Simon snapped his fingers. "Tonight's consumption is on me!"
Clara smiled. "No need. Keep your money to raise your kid."
She pulled a card from her bag. "Swipe Rhys's card."
Rhys had given her this card on their wedding day.
It contained not just his salary, but also rent and dividends from several properties under his name.
She had never touched it, always feeling that spending the money would make the feelings impure, as if she married him for his money.
Today, she was going to swipe it empty.
