The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 7

"Clara! Snap out of it!"

Simon's voice pulled her back from her memories.

He looked at Clara's pale face with concern. "What's wrong?"

Clara pushed his phone away. "I remember now."

"Remember what?"

Clara explained briefly. Simon remembered too, jumping up in anger.

"No wonder he didn't dare tell you! It's disgusting!"

Brother and sister? Did he think he was the protagonist in a soap opera?

If Margot were really just a sister, what kind of massive secret was it that he couldn't be open with his own wife?

"Is Rhys sick in the head? Did he forget he's married? Getting involved with his so-called sister—what is he after? The thrill?"

Clara wanted to ask that too. What was he after?

Seeing her silence, Simon assumed her old habit of being soft-hearted was acting up. He stoked the fire

"Think clearly. You forgot how mean he used to be to you? Now that he has his lover-girl sister, he'll only be meaner to you."

To be honest, Clara used to kind of like it when he was mean.

She had a lenient upbringing and grew up wild. After getting together with Rhys, she once went to a bar and forgot to check in. Rhys couldn't find her, so he called Simon directly to demand answers.

He came to collect her with a dark expression, hauled her out of the booth, stuffed her into the car, and drove home in silence. He pinned her against the door and claimed her with a punishing, possessive intensity.

After that night, Clara got addicted to the rush. for a long time, she found ways to make him angry.

There was only one time.

Clara used up all her connections and luck to buy two concert tickets.

Front row, center seats.

Five minutes before the start, Rhys took a call. After a few words, he stood up to leave.

Clara tried to stop him. She asked if Margot had no one else to look after her, that she needed him constantly worrying and caring for her?

Rhys got angry then too. He said she was being unreasonable. For the first time in public, he shook off her hand, turned around, and disappeared into the crowd.

Amidst the deafening music, Clara looked at the empty seat beside her and lost all interest.

When the concert ended, the taxi line was over a hundred people deep, and the subway had stopped running.

Clara waited by the roadside until her legs were numb. She got home at midnight to an empty house.

Then he was on duty. When he finally came home three days later, there was no explanation, no apology.
