The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 83

In the dining room, the servants were resetting the table. The clock struck midnight; it was now officially Christmas, the most important moment of the year.

According to the Huntington family rules, the whole family had to gather for a meal at this time.

Clara was pulled by Mia to sit next to her, directly opposite Rhys and Margot.

Margot, perhaps sensing the lingering tension from the courtyard incident, was acting exceptionally eager. She made herself at home, taking plates from the servants and distributing them to everyone.

Margot smiled sweetly, placing a dish by the old man's hand. "Grandfather Huntington, here's to your health and a wonderful year ahead."

Old Mr. Huntington barely looked up, acknowledged her with a grunt, and offered no warmth.

Margot's smile didn't falter as she moved around the round table.

When she reached Clara, Margot used the serving chopsticks to place a pastry onto Clara's plate. "Clara, eat up. Wishing you happiness every day."

Clara looked at the pie in her bowl and didn't move. She had to dig her nails into her palm to stop herself from flipping the plate right into Margot's face.

Happiness? She would only be happy if these two people vanished from her sight.

Rhys was talking to his cousin next to him, but seeing Clara motionless, he picked up the pie from her plate and put it onto his own.

"She doesn't eat this filling," Rhys explained faintly. He picked up a beef pie from another dish. "Eat this one."

Only then did Clara pick up her fork.

"Rhys," she called his name abruptly.

"Hm?"

Clara looked into his eyes, which were calm and composed. He had no idea how disgusted she felt.

"Nothing."
