The Omega and The Arrogant Alpha (by Kylie) novel Chapter 306

“That is not what we said,” the first speaker replies sharply.

“It’s what you meant,” I say, meeting his gaze without flinching.

Silence follows, heavier this time, because I’ve named the thing they were hoping to dance around, and once something has a shape, it’s harder to pretend it doesn’t exist.

“You’re putting us at risk,” someone says finally.

“No,” I reply. “I’m exposing where the risk has always been.”

One of the older council members leans back in his chair, eyes narrowed thoughtfully. “You need to stop.”

The words are simple.

Blunt.

A directive.

I inhale slowly, feeling my wolf press forward under my ribs, not aggressive, but braced, like she’s ready to hold ground.

“Stop what,” I ask.

“Accepting these messages,” he says. “Responding to them. Entertaining them at all. Redirect them through proper channels where they can be reviewed, filtered, and addressed appropriately.”

Filtered.

The word sits wrong in my chest.

“And if those channels are part of the problem,” I ask quietly.

“That’s speculation.”

“It’s pattern recognition,” I correct.

“This is not your decision to make,” he snaps.

I lean forward slightly, hands still flat on the table, posture controlled. “If people are coming to me because they don’t trust the system, then pretending that system is neutral doesn’t restore faith, it confirms their fear.”

“You’re overstepping.”

“I’m listening.”

“You’re destabilizing.”

“I’m refusing to bury it.”

The room erupts then, not into shouting, but into overlapping objections, voices sharpening, frustration breaking through restraint as the reality they’ve been holding at bay starts to press back.

Ben’s presence behind me shifts subtly, and I know without looking that he’s clocking exits, tracking reactions, preparing for escalation even if it never comes.

Eventually, the first speaker raises a hand, forcing the room back into tense silence.

“This ends now,” he says. “You will forward all communications to the council immediately. You will issue a statement discouraging further contact. You will not pursue this further.”

I sit back slowly, heart pounding but expression calm, because this is the line, the one I felt coming the moment I stepped into the room.

“And if I don’t,” I ask.

The answer comes without hesitation.

“Then we will move to suspend your authority pending review.”

The words hit like a physical blow, not because I didn’t anticipate them, but because of how easily they were offered, how quickly they were prepared, like this outcome was always sitting in a drawer waiting to be used.
