The Omega and The Arrogant Alpha (by Kylie) novel Chapter 342

There is a subtle shift then, not explosive, not dramatic, but real. Shoulders lower slightly. Eyes meet mine without darting away.

Landon steps in beside me, not overshadowing, just reinforcing.

“The northern probe last night confirms that we cannot afford internal fragmentation,” he says. “External forces test us when they sense uncertainty.”

That lands harder than anything else so far.

“Then we remove the uncertainty,” I say quietly. “By addressing it openly.”

One of the younger warriors, the same one who spoke up last night, raises his chin slightly.

“And if the bond changes things further?” he asks.

There it is again.

Not accusation, not exactly, but concern wrapped in curiosity.

“The bond exists,” I answer. “It does not replace rank. It does not override protocol. If it influences decision making in ways that compromise the pack, you will see me correct it.”

That last part is deliberate.

Accountability is not weakness.

The meeting stretches another twenty minutes, detailed and practical, each patrol route reviewed in sequence, each adjustment examined in full view of the pack. There are no raised voices this time, no edge of challenge, just structured discussion.

When it ends, it does not feel triumphant.

It feels steadier.

Wolves disperse slowly, conversations quieter, less charged, and as the courtyard clears I exhale a breath I had not realized I was holding.

“You didn’t flinch,” Landon says under his breath.

“I couldn’t,” I reply.

Because flinching confirms fear, and fear becomes policy faster than any official vote.

The rest of the day is a blur of follow up. I walk the northern border myself in the afternoon, boots crunching over gravel and frost stiff grass, two warriors trailing at a respectful distance. The air is sharper here, cleaner, and I let it fill my lungs while I scan the tree line.

There are faint disturbances along the perimeter, signs of movement but not invasion, and it unsettles me more than a full attack would. Probing is intentional. Probing means someone is measuring response time.

By the time I return to the packhouse the sun is dipping low again, gold bleeding into gray, and exhaustion presses against my shoulders in a familiar, unwelcome way.

Upstairs, I sit on the edge of the bed and unlace my boots slowly, fingers moving on autopilot while my mind replays the day.
