I sat on the chair out the front of the packhouse and Ezra was sitting beside me, not knowing what to say.

I was just looking out at the warriors training, and other pack members wandering around, doing their own thing. Wishing that my life could be that simple for once.

I knew that this was too good to be true.

“Alright. You’re pregnant. That doesn’t change anything.” Ezra said.

“You really think I should keep this from Logan?” I asked.

“You really shouldn’t hide a pregnancy from your mate, but you have a very different mateship than most other mates. I mean, he didn’t even move you and your mother into the packhouse. He left you in the trailer in the middle of nowhere to get attacked by rogues whenever they wanted to attack.” He said.

“Yeah. I know all of that.” I said.

“He doesn’t deserve to be a father.” Ezra said.

“I know he doesn’t. And he doesn’t deserve to have a happy life. But he’s going to. He’s going to get married to Penelope and have a bunch of kids so they can take over the pack.” I said.

“Exactly. If this is his oldest child then he will force this child to follow in his footsteps. He will force you to take this baby back to that pack. Do you really want that? You’ve already rejected him, so you won’t know if he’s having sex with his girlfriend anymore. And they can have as many kids as they want. Let those kids grow up and take over the pack. You and your baby deserve to be happy.” Ezra said, very passionately.

“You really don’t want me to go.” I said.

“Of course not.” He said.

“Alright then. I won’t go. I don’t want my kid to be thrown into that kind of pressure.” I said.

“Exactly. You can give it a normal childhood.” He said.

“Can I ask you something?” I asked.

“Sure.”

“Why are you still single? Why haven’t you found your mate?”

“Well, that’s a long story.”

“Ezra. You know everything about my life. Every little detail. You aren’t going to share this with me?” I asked.

“Well, I have found my mate. Unfortunately, she had already picked a chosen mate.” He said.

“Oh. So, she rejected you for a chosen mate. That’s bullshit.” I said.

“I know. But it happens.”

“Do you know the guy that she chose?” I asked.

“Yeah. His name is Cory.” Ezra said, and I practically froze when I heard that. “Are you alright?” He asked, looking concerned.

“Cory. Your mate rejected you because she chose to be with a vampire?” I asked.

“You know Cory?” He asked.

“He paid me a visit while I was in the trailer one night. He wasn’t there to hurt me. He claims they feed off of animals, not people.” I said.

“They’?” He asked.

“His coven, family. Whatever you want to call it. I know that he calls it a family. I’m not sure how many are in there.” I said.

“What did he want?” Ezra asked.

“He told me that I needed to be careful. It looked like he’d been watching me for a while. I don’t know why. It was a really weird warning. Just that I needed to be careful. He said that I could do better than Logan.” I said.

“Well, he wasn’t wrong there.” Ezra agreed.

“Hey guys, what’s going on?” Nathan asked. And I looked at Ezra who was still holding the pregnancy test.

“Oh crap, that’s yours.” He said, throwing it back on my lap but I just smirked at him.

“What is it?” Nathan asked.

“I’m pregnant.” I said.

“Shit. I didn’t think things had gotten that serious with Logan.”

“It did. One night. And the very next day he announced that he was engaged to that other plastic girlfriend of his.” I explained.

“She’s staying here and she’s still going to go to college. We’ll set up the bedroom next to hers, it can be the baby’s room and I will hire someone to help take care of the baby while you’re at school.” Ezra said.

“I can’t ask you to do all of that.” I said.

“You’re not asking. I’m offering. You can’t do it alone. Not go to school, work and take care of a baby. So, don’t worry about the damn money. I know you don’t like handouts, but this is how it’s going to happen. Whether you like it or not.” Ezra said.

“Well, I guess there’s just one more thing left for me to do.” I said.
