Chapter 73

“Bye. And thanks for today.” I said.

“Not a problem.” He said.

I walked onto the veranda with Ezra and sat next to him while we were looking out at the forest that surrounded the packhouse.

“It’s so peaceful here.” I said.

“Yeah. I guess so. It wasn’t peaceful where you were?” He asked.

“I lived in a trailer in the woods. I guess it was peaceful, for most of the time. But otherwise we never got the patrols that we deserved. They stayed away from that section of the woods. So if anyone attacked, they always attacked near our trailer. And we were always in the firing line.” I said.

Ezra looked at me in disbelief.

“How the hell did you ever make it out of there alive?” He asked.

“Beats the hell out of me. I guess I was just lucky.” I said.

“I think it was a little more than that. Anyway, come on.” He said.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“To see the doctor. To get a prenatal exam done.” He said.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yeah. You haven’t seen a doctor since you found out that you were pregnant. Come on.” He said, standing up.

So I stood up and we walked down to his car and he drove me to the hospital.

The doctor was already waiting for us and we went into the room and I got changed into a hospital gown and I laid

down on the table.

He had to do a couple of different exams and then he did an ultrasound so I could actually see the baby on the

screen.

“How does it look?” I asked.

“It looks great. And it looks the right size for the time that you gave me. So, your ex boyfriend is that father?” The doctor asked.

“Yeah. But he’s not in the picture anymore.” I said.

“Unfortunately, that does still happen. We like to think that we’re more evolved than humans, but not all of us are.” He said.

“Tell me about it.” I said.

When we got back to the packhouse I went to the kitchen to get a coffee and I was going to take it upstairs while I did my homework but I heard talking in the office.

The door was slightly ajar and I wasn’t going to say anything until I heard my name.

I stopped on the bottom step where I could hear them talking and I soon worked out that it was Ezra and Nathan.

“Are you really not going to tell Morgan the truth?” Nathan asked.

“I don’t know what the truth is, right now.” Ezra said.

“Yes, you do. You’re just too scared to admit it.” Nathan said.

“What? I can’t tell for sure because the pregnancy is screwing up her scent and hormones.” Ezra said. 1

“So, you’ll know as soon as she has the baby?” Nathan asked.

“Probably.”

“This is bullshit Ezra. You obviously already know now.” Nathan said.

“I have a feeling. But it’s hard to tell.” Ezra said.

“You are each other’s second chance mates. You didn’t know the first time you met because she was still mated to Logan. But now she’s not. And your mate pissed off with someone else. Chose to stay with that someone else. And now you and Morgan have a real chance of being happy if you don’t care about her having a baby with someone else.” Nathan said.

“Of course I don’t care about that. I would treat that baby as my own. You know that.” Ezra said. 1

“Then tell her.” Nathan insisted, sounding annoyed.

“Just give it a rest Nathan.” Ezra demanded as he opened the office door.

He froze in the doorway when he saw me standing on the bottom step staring at them.
