Chapter 8

When I got to his office he brought me into his office straight away.

“Whatever it is, I didn’t do it.” I said.

“You’re not in trouble.” He said.

“Wow. That’s a first.” I said, sitting down on the chair.

“I know. But, I was just looking over your transcripts and because of the advanced classes that you have been taking I just realized that you have enough credits to graduate.” He said.

“What?” I asked, shocked.

“You don’t need to come to school anymore. You’ve got enough credits.” He said. 1

“Are you just saying this to get rid of me? Because I plan on going to college and I need a high school certificate. And a scholarship.” I said.

“And you are getting a certificate. It’s not to get rid of you. It’s because you deserve it. And I know about your mother. She needs you right now, which is why I brought you in this morning. As for the scholarships, I’m sure you’ll be a shoe in for them. You have great grades. I’ll make sure that the colleges get a great reference from me.” He said.

“Alright. What the fuck is going on here?” I asked, confused.

“Excuse me?” He asked.

“Why are you being so nice to me?” I asked.

“I had some good news for you. I wanted to give it to you in person.” He said.

“Is this because the Beta has been following me around everywhere? Is that why you’re being so nice?” I asked.

“No. It’s because you have graduated from school.” He said.

“So, I don’t have to come back at all?” I asked.

“No. You don’t.” He said.

“Well, it’s about fucking time. It’s been great knowing you, Grayson. I’ll come back later to clear out my locker.” I said, standing up. (1)

“Sure thing.” He said.

So I left his office and I went to the hospital.

My mother was awake and she was sitting up in bed, giving the nurses hell because they wouldn’t let her leave.

“Mom. Calm down.” I said, going into the room.

“Morgan. They won’t let me leave. I have to get back to work.” She said.

“No. You need rest.” I said.

“I need to get the hell out of here.” She said.

“Like mother, like daughter.” A nurse said.

“What is that meant to mean?” Mom asked.

“Nothing, mom. It doesn’t mean anything.” I said, glaring at the nurse. “Can you please just stay here and wait for the doctor?” I asked.

“Fine. But as soon as I see him, I’m out of here.” She said.

“I have no doubt.” I said. So the nurses left and I sat by her bed for a bit and she was getting anxious just sitting around like this.

I told her about my meeting with Grayson and she was really proud of me. She was happy that I could now go to college. But I tell her that I can start in the spring. I can work until then. I’m going to have to anyway, so I can afford a place to live, furniture, everything.

My mother was sure that I was going to get a scholarship but I wasn’t so sure about that. And I wasn’t going to rely on that.

The doctor obviously didn’t think my mother was that important and by 2pm that afternoon I had to leave and I told her that I would come back later.

I had to run home and I had a shower and I put on the crappy make-up that we had, but I kept it pretty neutral and I curled my hair and clipped it on one side so it hung down over my left shoulder.

I then got dressed into a floor length pale pink mermaid style low cut gown with thin straps and pearl and diamante detailing all over the bodice and it started to get less and less the lower down the dress it got until it stopped around my thighs.

The skirt of the gown was layered chiffon with a darker pink edge to it.

I then put on the white strappy high heels and I stood in front of the mirror to look at myself. 1

I couldn’t believe what I looked like right now. It definitely wasn’t me. I barely even recognised the person in the

mirror.

Suddenly the door opened and I turned to see Logan standing there, fixing his cufflinks.

“Are you ready? We have…” He started saying as he looked up at me and lost his train of thought when he saw

Not the reaction I was expecting. But I’ll take it.
